The department of Physical Therapy & Human Movement Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Responsibilities include The ACCA provides leadership for the ongoing planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program curriculum at PTHMS. Within the following guidelines, the Department encourages innovation and vision in how the ACCA implements these goals:
Leads in the development and delivery of a DPT curriculum designed to meet the needs of society for excellent patient and community care.
Supports the development and delivery of a DPT curriculum that is based on the latest scientific and clinical evidence relevant to the practice of PT.
Collaborates with ACPE to ensure educational program compliance with accreditation standards.
Collaborates with ACPE to review faculty and course evaluations. Facilitates faculty team and course changes as needed.
Collaborates with ACPE to identify when faculty performance may need to be improved and develop a plan to remediate any performance concerns.
Coordinates with Assistant Chairs for Clinical Education, Recruiting & Admissions, and Student Affairs, to promote student growth, professional development, and wellness during entry-level DPT education.
Supports DPT biomedical and educational research and exposure to their relevant research design and methods.
Guides students, faculty, and staff in professional growth as effective educators in areas related to curriculum development and teaching and learning strategies.
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chair or ACPE.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Departmental Activities: The ACCA serves as the primary curriculum coordinator for DPT-educational program, and promotes an environment that enhances students’ learning experiences, consistent with Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM) guidelines.
Works collaboratively with students and department faculty, leadership and staff to promote an educational environment that responds to student concerns and enhances their learning, personal growth, and professional development.
Chairs Curriculum Committee. Coordinates ongoing meetings of Core Faculty Curriculum Committee and quarterly meetings of entire Curriculum Committee. Facilitates selection of student and clinician representatives to the Curriculum Committee.
Collects and reviews DPT graduate and other stakeholders survey and outcome data and makes recommendations for DPT program changes.
Coordinates trimester schedule: inputting of master schedule, leading course director meeting, and resolving conflicts with time or room requests.
Facilitates the use of current and emerging technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and research (e.g., Ipad, Examsoft, online/blended learning) in the DPT program.
External Relationships and Collaborations:
Represent PTHMS at Northwestern University and external entities related to entry level DPT education.
Promote/support opportunities for collaboration within Feinberg School of Medicine and the greater Northwestern University community related to physical therapy and medical education.
REQUIRED SKILLS &EXPERIENCE:
Position requires at least 5 years of experience in physical therapy education including direct teaching, clinical education, and scholarship.
Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop strong and influential relationships with students, PTHMS faculty and staff, other Northwestern University faculty and administrators, and the professional community.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of students, faculty, and administrative stakeholders to translate university, medical school and departmental student affairs goals into operational results.
Entry-level physical therapy degree and post-professional doctoral degreein related discipline required.
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Illinois.
Knowledge of CAPTE accreditation standards and processes
