Department of Intercollegiate Athletics currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Part Time Temporary NTC - Instructor.

With over 650 student-athletes competing throughout UW's 22 sports programs, the department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to a leading-edge student-athlete experience, and offering student-athletes the ability to compete for NCAA, IRA, and Pac-12 championships while working toward a degree from one of the world's leading public research universities.

Job Duties:

•Teach individual and group lessons and classes, USTA team practices, and clinics.
•Lessons may be given to adults, students, and children ages 4-14 at every level from beginner to advanced level. No lessons may be given to high school students due to NCAA rules.
•Teach skills and strategy appropriate to the age and ability level of the students and provide many different drills and activities to engage the students.
•Greet participants, develop and implement age appropriate lesson plans, participate in required training; inspect classroom/program environment and equipment to insure safety, handle emergencies according to established procedures.
•Assess skill level of participants and evaluate progress. Provide specific feedback and provide examples and implement drills that will help students improve.
•Log attendance and work with students to provide make-up sessions as required.
•Engage with students throughout the entire lesson and give frequent instructions and feedback on performance. This requires movement around the court and viewing students from many angles and providing individual instruction from many areas of the court.

Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University.  The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.  As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Requirements:

Must be highly motivated to teach tennis, have a love for the game, and the ability and desire to improve client’s tennis skills and to promote the University of Washington tennis teams. Must have a minimum of 2 years teaching and/or college playing experience and be able to instruct advanced players. Instructors must be USPTA or PTR certified, or gain certification within six months of employment. Advanced knowledge of tennis stroke mechanics, point strategy, and the rules of tennis required. Strong oral communication skills are necessary and required. Ability to work with a diverse group of people effectively and diplomatically. Strong customer service stills are required and necessary. The ability to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and with diplomacy is expected. Must demonstrate competent organizational and planning skills. Ability to stand for at least 1.5 hours at a time and physically demonstrate tennis skills. Ability to feed balls with consistent location and speed.

Desired:

A current or former national ranking or NTRP level of 5.0 or higher.
