Qualifications:
COUN 523-01 - Group Theory and Practice

In person - Moraga, CA campus, August 29, 2022 - December 5, 2022, Monday, 4:15pm - 7:00pm

In this course, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in and lead groups. This course includes a survey of group counseling theories, techniques, and research; discussion of professional, ethical, multicultural, and clinical issues in group practice; review of the developmental stages of groups; and practice as group members and leaders. This course is taught in an experiential format, with both live group counseling and lecture/discussion components. The instructor must be skilled in group counseling theory and in the practice of facilitating groups.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have a M.A., M.S., or Ph.D. in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Development, Higher Education & Student Affairs, or a related field. Candidates must have experience teaching at the graduate level in Counseling, Psychology, or a related area, or at least 3 years of experience as a practicing clinician (e.g., MFT, PCC, clinical or counseling psychologist), school-based mental health professional (e.g., school counselor or school psychologist), or counselor in a higher education setting (e.g., college/university). Candidates must also have experience facilitating groups in a counseling, clinical, school-based, or therapeutic setting (e.g., community-based mental health organization, private practice, hospital or inpatient/outpatient facility, K-12 school, college or university).

Preferred Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Counseling or Psychology is highly desirable. Current license in Marriage & Family Therapy, Professional Clinical Counseling, or Psychology, or Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling, Social Work, or School Psychology. A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, multicultural/international competence, social justice, clinical expertise, and familiarity with counseling theory and practice.
