Location: Bloomington, Indiana

Salary: Open

Internal Number: 13554

Location: Bloomington

Department: IU Bloomington Educational Leadership & Policy Studies

Position Announcement:

Indiana University's nationally recognized Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) program is seeking applications for a tenured associate or full professor (rank depending on qualifications and experience) who can serve as director of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), a flagship project in IU's Center for Postsecondary Research (CPR). An established scholar-leader is sought to bring vibrancy, critical perspectives, productivity, and innovation to both HESA and NSSE.

Candidates should have a well-established record of equity-minded research, teaching, and service that qualifies for appointment as a tenured associate or full professor in the IU Bloomington School of Education, with particular emphasis on research in higher education and student affairs and project leadership. More specifically, we seek a scholar who focuses their research, teaching and service on issues related to:

· Evidence-informed assessment for improving student learning and engagement
· Effective educational practices that equitably serve diverse students
· Systemic inequities that influence the design and implementation of educational practices to support success of marginalized populations

In addition, the ideal candidate will have significant experience with:
· Working with large, national datasets
· Teaching graduate courses in higher education and student affairs
· Mentoring and contributing to the success of graduate students, including chairing doctoral dissertation committees
· Contributing to department and school governance and administrative needs

The director of NSSE is a three-year appointment with an evaluation for continued appointment. The successful candidate will lead and collaborate with a team of over 20 faculty colleagues, research scientists, and project associates, overseeing all aspects of the NSSE project (survey content, IRB protocols and compliance, promotional materials and recruitment campaigns, survey administration, user support, data preparation, and reporting of results).

Specifically, we seek a scholar who can:
· Establish an equitable and inclusive work environment that promotes research associates, research scientists, graduate assistants, and professional staff innovation, mentorship, and development
· Sustain and work effectively with the NSSE National Advisory Board to assure the project's continued relevance, value, and sustainability
· Leverage technology to promote survey participation, especially among minoritized groups, and optimize data collection and reporting
· Be familiar with sound financial stewardship and planning for an enterprise that generates between $2 million and $4 million annually and employs full-time and part-time staff.
· Represent NSSE at professional meetings and to the news media, advocating for the NSSE family of projects and their role in evidence-informed improvement
· Collaborate with NSSE and CPR leadership in planning and policy matters

IU's Center for Postsecondary (CPR) conducts research investigating processes and practices that influence student success and higher education institutional excellence. Center staff provide research and consultation services to assist postsecondary institutions and related agencies in gathering and using data for educational decision making and institutional improvement and promoting those practices found to be effective.

Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) is the flagship campus of Indiana University's nine physical campuses. IUB has 16 degree-granting schools enrolling approximately 45,000 students. The HESA program is housed within the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and the Center for Postsecondary research is one of the School of Education's three research centers. Located approximately one hour south of Indianapolis, Bloomington offers a vibrant array of artistic and cultural opportunities.

The faculty of Indiana University is committed to achieving excellence through racial/ethnic and cultural diversity. The university actively encourages applicants and nominations of women, persons of color, applicants with disabilities, and members of other minoritized groups.

Indiana University is an equal employment and affirmative action employer and a provider of ADA services. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment based on individual qualifications. Indiana University prohibits discrimination based on age, ethnicity, color, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, national origin, disability status or protected veteran status.

Before a conditional offer of employment with tenure is finalized, candidates will be asked to disclose any pending investigations or previous findings of sexual or professional misconduct. They will also be required to authorize an inquiry by Indiana University Bloomington with all current and former employers along these lines. The relevance of information disclosed or ascertained in the context of this process to a candidate's eligibility for hire will be evaluated by Indiana University Bloomington on a caseby-case basis. Applicants should be aware, however, that Indiana University Bloomington takes the matters of sexual and professional misconduct very seriously.

Screening of applications will begin on September 30, 2022 and continue until the position is filled. The appointment date is flexible and can begin as early as January 2023. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Indiana University offers an excellent benefits package.

Applicants should upload to https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/13554:
· Letter of Application
· Curriculum Vitae
· Statement addressing their contributions to diversity and equity through research, teaching, and/or service
· Two Sample Publications
· Contact information for three references who may be asked to submit letters of support. References will not be contacted without prior contact with the applicant.
