  • Enhancing the career and educational pathways of a diverse student body, the faculty and staff; and

  • Cultivating relationships with the local community that advance the well-being of diverse individuals and communities.

The SDSU MVP, located in the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center, is the California State University (CSU) system's flagship veteran's resource center and the first veteran's center in the system. The MVP is a component within Student Affairs and Campus Diversity which directs, manages and provides services for all aspects of the veteran, active duty, reserve and dependent programs for San Diego State University undergraduate and graduate students. The MVP manages all veteran and military-connected support services and events for the campus and serves as the primary source of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), California Department of Veterans Affairs (Cal Vet), and other agencies.

The primary duties of this position will encompass complex outreach activities and comprehensive communications, advice, and guidance to a highly visible student group - service members, military family members, and veterans - to assist in the pursuit of a college education. Additionally, this employee will use sound individual judgment and professionalism in recognizing, seeking, coordinating, establishing, and maintaining communication networks across organizational lines with appropriate institutions and representatives in order to educate, communicate, advise, and guide constituencies about education opportunities available to them, means of access, available resources and support structures, and other needs as recognized by the employee. The employee will be expected to brief university leadership as appropriate, displaying high levels of tact, confidence, and expertise to achieve the desired outcomes.
