Position Summary
Student Ability Success Center (SASC) in the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity provides a full range of accommodations and services to nearly 2,500 students with physical, psychological, and learning disabilities, facilitating equal access to the educational process. This is accomplished through direct service support, review of campus accessibility, adaptive technology, assessment, test accommodation, and a variety of other services. Accommodations vary according to types of disabilities, and may include sign language interpreting; provision of alternative formats, such as electronic text or Braille; computer-assisted real-time captioning; test accommodations; advising; assistive computer technology; cart transportation services, and numerous other services. Provision of these academic support services, technology and advocacy promotes the retention and graduation of students with disabilities at SDSU.
The Accessible Technology Advisor supports the Assistive Technology Coordinator with the clerical and administrative aspects of providing technology accommodations for students with disabilities. With oversight from the Assistive Technology Coordinator, the Accessible Technology Advisor will assist with the day-to-day operations of SASC's High Tech Center. Providing access to assistive technology is a legally mandated accommodation, and is critical to the mission of Student Ability Success Center.
The Accessible Technology Advisor is expected to work closely with the Assistive Technology Coordinator on a day-to-day basis, and often in collaboration with the SASC counselors and administrative staff. The coordination of alternative media and assistive technology accommodations involves working with individuals at all levels of the organization.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2023, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and Experience
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in field related to job responsibilities.
Work experience in disability services at the postsecondary level
Working knowledge of assistive technology hardware and software, as well as standard computer hardware and software
Superior oral and written communication skills
Specialized Skills
Demonstrated competency using Microsoft Excel
Detail-oriented and capable of coordinating multiple projects concurrently with a high degree of accuracy
Demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with students and faculty
Understanding of basic processes in the Test Accommodation Center and in alternative media production
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,796 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy and the Academic Professionals of California Union MOU, the individual hired into this position may voluntarily provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19. Alternatively, those who choose not to provide proof of vaccination will be considered unvaccinated and required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program. Proof of vaccination or COVID test results will be submitted through the university's secure online health portal. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.
