Position Overview:

Campus Life is seeking an Assistant Director for Greek Life to facilitate student success through the development, delivery and assessment of educational programs and advocacy for the Greek experience at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director for Greek Life facilitates student success through development, delivery and assessment of educational programs and advocacy for the Greek experience at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Reporting to the Director for Campus Life Engagement, the Assistant Director leads the office's programmatic efforts and provides strategic guidance for members of Greek Life organizations, placing a high value on self-governance. The Assistant Director understands the unique needs of students and the ways those needs vary across race, gender, religion, age, socio-economic status and other identities. They use diversity, equity and inclusion lenses to develop intersectional programs, initiatives and outreach efforts that contribute to the overall sense of belonging for the UMBC Greek community. The Assistant Director is also committed to contributing to an inclusive departmental culture for both students and staff.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive leadership development and training curriculum, including annual chapter president and council officer leadership retreat and monthly all-chapter president meetings
  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement well-being programs and initiatives including, but not limited to, sexual assault prevention, hazing prevention, academic support measures, bystander intervention and mental health awareness
  • Advisement of and/or coordination of governing council recruitment and intake processes
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and collaborations with chapter advisors, and (inter)national headquarters; serve as a resource to community stakeholders such as alumni, parents/families and neighborhood council partners
  • Provide budget and fiscal oversight for the area
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in an area related to Student Affairs, Higher Education or another relevant discipline (Degree must be conferred by the first day of employment)
  • At least one year of relevant Student Affairs experience
  • Understanding of emerging issues in higher education, particularly in fraternity and sorority life
  • Demonstrated experience in providing comprehensive risk management programs, policies and practices within Greek communities
  • Experience in providing robust data collection and management related to fraternity/sorority reporting–including academic compliance, grade reports, insurance collection, leadership trainings and development, along with day to day operational needs for organizations
  • Understanding of the national operations of fraternity and sorority life, and demonstrated experience interacting with a variety of national offices
  • Knowledge of general operations, organization, and structure of fraternity/sorority life within IFC, PHA, MGC, and NPHC groups
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence, and a continuing commitment to advance equity, inclusion, and social justice practices in support of a diverse community
  • Demonstrated creativity in student programming and experience in a variety of traditional Greek programs–including welcome programs, Homecoming, and Greek Week
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in creating systems and structures to advance the overall needs of a fraternity/sorority community
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a a highly collaborative team environment
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as student programming needs and major events require
  • Willingness to contribute to other areas of Campus Life Engagement 
    Preferred Qualifications: 
    • Three or more years of relevant experience is preferred

    • Experience in direct fraternity and sorority advising is preferred

    • Experience with assessment and data-driven decision-making is preferred.

    • Membership in a fraternity or sorority, or experience working or volunteering for a fraternity or sorority is preferred.
