Position Summary
Washington University seeks a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as the inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor and Deputy Chief Information Officer â“ Academic and Administrative Technologies (Deputy CIO). Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Technology and Chief Information Officer, the Deputy CIO serves as a deputy and advisor to the CIO with a foundation in strategic leadership and the overall operational oversight and accountability for all IT services provided by Washington University IT (WUIT) to the academic and administrative business units in the schools, departments and central fiscal unit (CFU) of the university.
The Deputy CIO has regular interaction and engagement with university executive leadership as it relates to matters of the academic and administrative operations across the university. The position works closely with the Deputy CIO for Research, Clinical, and Medical Education Technologies and the Chief Technology Officer to define and execute strategic directions, operational priorities, and execution across the entire university.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
As a transformative leader, they will enable IT and digital transformation programs through engagement with the key goals of the university strategic plan, defining the programs to deliver against those strategies, and ensuring the organization has the skills, resources, and practices needed to attain and sustain its' goals and objectives.
As a change leader, they will be highly engaged and collaborative with university executive leadership, working with them to oversee the change impacts of the technology products and services for administrative and academic enterprise technologies.
As a compassionate, emotionally intelligent leader, they will champion holistic talent management, encompassing equity, diversity, and inclusion programs and practices, while nurturing our individuals and teams with robust professional and career development opportunities.
With a primary focus on the academic and administrative business units the position will:
Develop, communicate and actively promote overall WashU IT business/technology plans to university leadership, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders.
Develop quality solutions aligning to business priorities through partnership, influence, and governance structures.
Collaborate with university leadership, schools, departments, and other organizational units to develop and maintain a strategic plan that supports the university's strategy for digital transformation and the resulting needs.
Keep current with industry trends and emerging technologies to anticipate new and evolving business needs and adjust requirements and strategy accordingly.
Communicate decisions, priorities, and relevant information regarding initiatives to the appropriate staff.
Align and calibrate the organization's application and information strategy with the overall business strategy.
Serve as a key member of the university IT senior leadership team and a thought leader in the broader IT@WashU community.
Engage with key stakeholders to promote and grow the adoption of the technology initiatives.
Work with key stakeholders to define requirements for new technology implementations and establish clear and attainable business benefits and return on investments.
Work with the university leaders, IT finance, and the portfolio and project management office to transform strategic vision into program proposals incorporating outline plans for presentation to university governance.
Oversee the prioritization, planning, and execution of strategic and critical tactical projects to ensure that they meet the objectives and priorities of the university strategic plan.
Be a champion for all strategic IT projects as assigned by university leadership.
Operational Management
Lead the WashU IT organizational units, which provide services for the academic mission and administration across the entire university.
Lead continuous process improvements to drive down cost and increase efficiency and effectiveness of university IT operations and system maintenance.
Ensure continuous delivery of IT services through oversight of service level agreements with executive leadership to achieve service expectations.
Support integrated and comprehensive support system and service delivery through collaboration with university IT leadership.
Oversee the operational support for all center-led IT solutions and related end-user services for those under the academic and administrative missions.
Be the primary stakeholder, representing the non-medical campuses in developing, maintaining, and testing the IT components of the university disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Organizational Management
Build, grow and oversee the AVC and executive directors for assigned organization, each of whom will manage teams of professional IT staff.
Work with the senior IT leadership team to develop and execute succession plans for IT at the university.
Supervise, recruit, develop, motivate, mentor, and retain high-performing staff through performance management, salary planning, career development, and training.
Cultivate a culture of personal responsibility and accountability.
Other duties as required.
Working Conditions
The work is performed in the offices located across the university's campuses. Activities will require trips to many university offices and offsite locations.

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or Business.
Experience deploying IT solutions across a diverse array of industries, which ideally includes teaching and learning, healthcare and academic based research.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or Business.
Ten to fifteen years of demonstrated, progressively responsible experience in the leadership and implementation of information technology and/or operational efficiencies at Higher Ed Institutions.
A proven ability to provide and deliver innovative IT solutions, including those which enable digital transformation, at an organization of comparable scale and complexity. The solutions meet key organizational/university-wide goals and objectives within stakeholders' agreed quality, budget, and time requirements.

Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
