Description
Incumbent provides assistance with a wide range of academic, personal, and other services to under-represented through outreach, counseling and programming and is responsible for developing, directing, and implementing multicultural student programs and activities, and supporting the retention-related needs of minority students. Supervises student employees. Reports to the Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
Assists with underrepresented student retention.
Works with Admissions department on a plan to recruit underrepresented students of color
Assists minority students in navigating through university systems.
Advises and counsels students on both academic and personal issues related to their continued matriculation at the University.
Develops and coordinates cultural, recreational, and social programs for undergraduate and graduate students
Responsible for curating a calendar of programs and events designed to inform and educate students on a broad number of topics related to cultural awareness, knowledge and skill-building including guest speakers and off-site program options
Supervise 5-7 student program assistants on office management, student outreach, program planning, marketing, and social media communication
Designs and oversees a student retention program for students of Color (Resilience Inspires Student Excellence (RISE)
Work closely with advancement to secure funding for retention initiatives targeted for underrepresented students
Advises and maintains legacy student organizations such as the Association for African American Collegians and The International Student Association
Assesses the needs for additional student organizations for underrepresented students and advises students in creating new campus organizations
Serves as liaison with metro area resource agencies to cultivate relationships regarding multicultural and social justice programming.
Collaborates with colleagues at peer institutions to provide joint educational programming and combat a sense of isolation for underrepresented students
Works closely with the Associate Dean, Dean of Students, President, and Chancellor to address student issues and concerns
Serves as an ambassador for the office
Partners with various campus departments to provide programs and services for all students
Responds to inquiries about the Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs or the University from students and their parents, faculty, and staff.
Develops links between underrepresented students and alumni to provide support, networking opportunities, role models and other resources that serve to advance student objectives
Shares responsibility for managing aspects of the budget for the Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs.
Shares responsibility for educating and informing the university community of multicultural student issues and concerns.
Provides cross-cultural and social justice training workshops for faculty, staff, and students
Attends and assists with Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs sponsored and supported programs.
Represents the Multicultural Center on other divisional and university-wide committees as needed.
Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop multicultural and social justice programming.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelors degree and at least three-five years of experience in multicultural programming, student activities or community programming.

Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office software; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative, and various social media platforms.
Periodic attendance at evening and/or weekend activities and responding to underrepresented student needs beyond usual office hours.
