JOB OVERVIEW:

Residential Education facilitates an undergraduate residential experience in the neighborhood setting that fosters diversity, equity and inclusion, health and well-being, belonging and community, and intellectual and personal growth. In addition, Residential Education collaborates with Student Affairs colleagues and campus partners to support the division values identified in Our Most Important Work. Inclusion and diversity are integral to Stanford's commitment to excellence. The Neighborhood Program Director is responsible for leading a neighborhood consisting of undergraduate student residences of various types (Resident Fellow-led or student-managed; all-frosh or upper-class; university themes, etc.) and a neighborhood community council. Expectations for the person in this position include proactive and responsive management of both community and individual student support; robust professional staff supervision and guidance; direct engagement with the students and student leaders in the neighborhood; fostering of supportive and responsive relationships with faculty and staff Resident Fellows; serving in a rotational backup capacity for 24/7 student support and crisis response; sound financial management and timely transaction review and approval; astute interpretation and application of policy; integration of student learning; collaboration within and across neighborhoods; and practical execution of priorities for Residential Education. This is a 3 year Fixed-Term position.

The Neighborhood Program Director reports to an Associate Dean of Residential Education. The Neighborhood Program Director supervises a staff comprised of one Resident Director and one Community Coordinator, and is responsible for the appointments of all undergraduate and graduate residential student leaders in their assigned neighborhood. The Neighborhood Program Director also works closely with the Resident Fellows, Academic Advising staff, Housing staff, and Dining staff in the neighborhoods they lead.

JOB PURPOSE:

Oversee the daily operation of a unit, large department, or several functional areas of the student services/affairs organization. Manage the work of other employees.

CORE DUTIES*:

In this role, you will:

* Manage people, processes, and programs to implement the goals of Residential Education and Student Affairs in assigned neighborhood. Make hiring decisions, provide coaching and mentoring, and manage performance and staffing levels.

* Identify, clarify, and resolve program issues and concerns with substantial significance in accordance with established policies and procedures which may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment. Mediate complex and sensitive issues.

* Respond to inquiries regarding university policies and procedures requiring interpretation; provide recommendation for correction.

* Develop long range planning for assigned neighborhood. Manage, develop, and forecast neighborhood and program budgets.

* Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university, academic and administrative policies for assigned neighborhood. Recommend new internal department policies, guidelines and procedures.

* Lead university, Student Affairs, or Residential Education initiatives and campaigns in assigned neighborhood.

* Independently make decisions regarding projects and initiatives within confines established by management. Represent Student Affairs, Residential Education, and neighborhood programs and initiatives to both internal and external constituents.

* Identify, manage relationships, and negotiate with external and internal partners.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in higher education setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Knowledge of the challenges faced by and proven ability to work with a diverse population of students, with demonstrated knowledge of issues around class, identity, and intersectionality.

* Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.

* Strong analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.

* Strong leadership and strategic management skills.

* Demonstrated experience managing people.

* User knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

* Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.

* Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

* This position will be 100% on-site.

* This position requires working on evenings and weekends, as needed or on a rotational basis.
