The Office of Veterans Support Services at City Tech welcomes applications for the position of Veteran Support Services Coordinator.
The Office of Veterans Support Services offers help and learning opportunities for student veterans of the U.S. Military and/or students receiving VA or other military related educational benefits, and is dedicated to fostering a welcoming environment for veterans on campus. The Veterans Support Services Coordinator will design and provide services that help faculty, staff, and non-military affiliated students understand the needs and strengths of the student veteran population. The Coordinator will participate in initiatives designed to promote student veteran success, while working closely with campus offices and local organizations. The coordinator will act as a student advocate for college services, policies, and procedures, as well as offer academic guidance to student veterans.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Counseling Services, the Veterans Support Services Coordinator will:
Provide academic counseling and planning services to a diverse student body.
Assist students with clarifying values and goals.
Counsel students regarding educational options, requirements, policies, and procedures related to GI, Military, and Veterans benefits.
Offer academic and personal support to guide students through the course selection process.
Provide students with effective and timely referrals to other college and external support services.
Monitor and evaluate students??? educational progress by conducting academic progress audits.
Establish and maintain student files, databases, and records; prepare activity reports and analysis.
Serve as a resource, consultant and liaison to the campus community, providing advice on specific programs in both individual and group settings.
Assist with preparing and submitting annual budget requests for the Office of Veteran Support Services.
Coordinate the scheduling and monitoring of Veterans Office staffing as needed.
Serve as CUNY ROTC Liaison for the college.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor???s Degree required
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years??? experience working with the veteran community and/or in higher education is strongly preferred.
Cultural competency and experience providing advisement services to a diverse student body in a higher education setting is highly desirable.
Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office, with an aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills are crucial.
Willingness to work closely with students of varied backgrounds and the ability to exercise both patience and prudence in these interactions is essential.
Strong project management and facilitation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Vaccine Requirement
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
