University Advancement has an outstanding opportunity for a Director for Advancement to join their team.

POSITION PURPOSE

UW Advancement is seeking a dynamic fundraising professional to serve as the Director for Advancement for the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMA&D).  This person is responsible for providing leadership to attract private support, enhance strategic marketing and communications with internal and external constituencies, and strengthen advocacy and engagement among alumni and community partners to advance the mission and values of the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity.

In addition to serving on the OMA&D administrative leadership team, this role will sit on the leadership team for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) Advancement.  ASA is one of the most innovative advancement units in the country.  Uniquely positioned at the axis of our central student serving units, our team helps deliver on UW’s public mission to recruit, retain and successfully graduate a diverse and talented student body who actively make our world a better place.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising

  • Direct the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and alumni by developing or facilitating relationships with those who have the capacity to make gifts of impact in support of our mission and priorities.

  • Manage a portfolio of prospects, with an emphasis on significant capacity-level gifts.  Generate new leads and qualify gift prospects and planned gifts.

  • Create and execute strategies to qualify and build strong, long-term relationships between unit leaders and prospects who can invest significantly as philanthropists and/or advocates.

  • Prepare, review and edit all materials needed to secure and steward significant gifts.

  • Participate cooperatively in the University’s prospect management and tracking system.

    Strategy, Engagement and Planning

    As part of the university-wide advancement planning process, work closely with Assistant Vice Provost, ASA, to establish annually with the Vice President of OMAD, goals, objectives and strategies for the units’ advancement activities.

  • Lead, inform and execute an annual operations plan with strategies, goals and markers for success.

  • Manage and reconcile balanced budgets for OMAD and ASA Advancement.

  • Provide strategic leadership in designing and implementing a baseline of advancement support to sustain and increase support for students, evaluate said programs, assess progress toward goals and report on results.

  • In partnership with the OMA&D Director of Communications, provide strategic direction for integrated communication plan for internal and external constituencies to promote fundraising priorities and objectives for the unit.

  • Partner with Assistant Vice Provost, ASA and the VP of OMA&D to inform diversity focused advancement priorities in support of enterprise-wide initiatives.

    Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and support a team of three professionals who will implement all aspects of OMAD’s advancement programs, including annual gifts, major and planned gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, donor recognition and stewardship.

  • Drive and inspire successful attainment of performance metrics, develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects and provide day-to-day management of operations.

  • Provide leadership and training for the OMAD advancement staff to retain and develop a high performing team.

  • Serve as a compelling spokesperson for units’ funding priorities and advancement efforts.

  • Collaborate with advancement officers as their units develop and pursue student success and diversity related goals at the undergraduate level.

    Unit Engagement

    As an integral member of the OMA&D administrative leadership team, the Director is involved in the unit’s strategic planning, engagement with staff to determine funding needs and priorities for the students OMA&D primarily serves, and to award annual scholarships. The Director also provides leadership for and works with a team to plan OMA&D’s annual gala – Celebration.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least six years of progressively responsible experience in development/advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating, and soliciting major gifts, preferably in a complex higher education environment with management and operational experience

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Advanced degree. Familiarity with a research-intensive university environment. Student development experience plus Delta training.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule for events scheduled on evenings and weekends.

  • This position is not eligible for 100% remote work, but open to hybrid schedule.

  • Ability to travel locally, regionally and nationally as necessary and includes having reliable transportation for local travel that will allow attendance to meetings in a reasonable time frame.
