Engineering Educational Specialist

As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state and around the world. UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem-solving skills and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world. Our culture promotes diversity, fosters effective collaboration, stimulates the intellect, and provides inspiration for creativity. All of which has led UW to be nationally recognized as a “Great College to Work For” for six consecutive years.

The mission of the College of Engineering at the University of Washington is to develop outstanding engineers and ideas that change the world. Nearly 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the 10 departments of the College of Engineering engage in a world-class education that challenges them to make meaningful contributions towards solving today’s interdisciplinary challenges. The College of Engineering is ranked 18th among all engineering schools with more than half of its departments ranked in the top 20 of their respective fields.

The College is committed to developing and supporting a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty that reflect and elevate the populations we serve. Notably, over 28% of faculty in the college are women, compared to 18% nationally, which is higher than at any other institution ranked in the top 50 by US News (Best Engineering Schools). Additionally, 29% of our bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020 were awarded to women.

The College of Engineering’s Student Academic Services (SAS) team is located within the Academic Affairs unit and is comprised of around 11 professional staff members. The SAS team’s areas of focus include outreach and recruitment to traditionally underserved communities, academic support, support for women in engineering, community building with underrepresented minority students, student leadership, academic advising, student involvement in clubs and competition groups, etc. The Engineering Academic Center (EAC) plays a key role in supporting the college’s goals around increasing access and impacting student success. The EAC provides academic support workshop courses, one on one tutoring, and group study sessions called Engineers in Gear. Additionally, the EAC serves as a communal studying space for engineering students where they develop a deep sense of belonging.

The College of Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for an Engineering Educational Specialist.

Our ideal candidate is a dynamic engineering educator who engages students in deep learning, actively contributes to building an inclusive community, and is deeply committed to the success of underserved students.

The Engineering Educational Specialist will be designing and delivering supplemental instruction for mathematics, science, and engineering courses, primarily to incoming college students, first-year students, and sophomores. • Teach three academic workshops (ENGR 19X) per quarter to support the subject areas listed above.
