Job Description:

The College at Brown University oversees academic advising for all undergraduate students, collaborating with faculty and staff across the University to support studentsâ™ academic progress and success. Within this context, the Financial Wellbeing and Emergency Gap (E-GAP) Program Advisor will serve as part of the Collegeâ™s academic advising team to provide holistic (academic, financial, and personal) advising and support programs to undergraduates, primarily those with high demonstrated financial need (often first generation and/or historically underrepresented groups).

Reporting to the Assistant/Associate Dean for Financial Advising, the Financial Wellbeing and E-GAP Program Advisor will provide students with advising, in close partnership with the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) and Student Financial Services (SFS), around financial issues that may intersect with academic, social, and personal circumstances. The Financial Wellbeing and E-GAP Program Advisor manages the daily operations of E-GAP grant funds and applications and related pilot programs and works closely with the E-GAP Advisory Group including the Financial Advising team and campus colleagues in Campus Life, OFA, SFS, and others to process, deliver, and report on E-GAP awards. In managing the day-to-day functions of E-GAP, this advisor will assist with identifying the hidden costs of a Brown education and propose programmatic solutions to address them. In addition, as a member of the financial advising team, this position will communicate financial support information to students, staff, and faculty to increase awareness and understanding of robust financial support services and actively connect students to a variety of additional resources and opportunities across the University.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelorâ™s degree in related fields; masterâ™s degree preferred.

  • 3-5 years of related work experience in a higher education setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of best practices in student development theories and academic support.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with college students on financial literacy.

  • Demonstrated experience advocating for and making change towards aspirational goals related to equity and inclusion, and an ability and willingness to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.

  • Proven track record in furthering institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives while supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or minoritized backgrounds is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and mobilize others (staff, faculty, and students) to achieve shared goals.

  • Initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, discretion, and sound judgment.

  • Successful experience in academic program administration, including planning and development, and implementation. Demonstrated commitment to assessment and gathering/acting on feedback from students, faculty, and colleagues.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment

All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check and education verification.
