Summary of Duties:
The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) Recruiter/Academic Advisor is responsible for the recruitment of participants from targeted areas to WSU's HEP Residential program; developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies and programs aimed at increasing enrollment of migrant and seasonal farmworkers and members of their immediate family to obtain a General Educational Development (GED) diploma that meets the guidelines for high school equivalency. The Recruiter/Advisor will identify and develop relationships with potential HEP participants from targeted Washington areas, establish and implement short and long-range organizational goals and objectives; represent the university to internal and external constituents; utilize working knowledge of policies, principles, and procedures of federal regulations outlined in the HEP grant under the U.S Department of Education. They will also provide ongoing support services to program participants and assist with upgraded employment, placement services, and college applications to meet program objectives. The successful candidate will share the vision to address changing social, educational demographic, and financial issues that impact service delivery for students.

This successful candidate will begin at one of the below classifications depending upon their experience.
Required Qualifications:
Student Services Professional:
Positions require a Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of professional work experience in student services. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Student Services Coordinator/Advisor 1:
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year for-year basis.
Student Services Coordinator/Advisor 2:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Required Qualifications for all levels:
Ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership; work independently in multiple roles.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Evidence of written and oral communication skills.
Experience in using computer programs (e.g., MS Office), email, and the internet.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license.
Willingness to travel occasionally for programmatic and professional development purposes.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours on an occasional basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred
Experience in working with students, parents, school districts, community and migrant serving agencies.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of factors impacting migrant/seasonal farm workers.
Knowledge of outreach and recruitment techniques in an academic setting.
Experience in a higher education setting, providing advising services or counseling to students who are educationally, economically, or otherwise underserved.
