The New School seeks a proven, dynamic, and forward-thinking professional for the position of Director of Undergraduate Admission for Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts.⯠Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment, the Director will provide leadership, direction, and implementation for a comprehensive enrollment strategy for Lang that is continually evolving, assessed and refined, to remain consistent with the goals and mission of the University and Enrollment Management and Strategic Partnerships (EMSP) and provide leadership and mentorship to a professional admission team. The Director will work collaboratively with EMSP Leadership, Deans, Program Chairs, admission committees and other members of the Universityâ™s leadership team and staff in meeting enrollment goals, and in advancing the academic quality and diversity of the universityâ™s student body. The primary objective of this position is to identify and recruit best fit undergraduate students interested in studying the liberal arts in an urban, reading- and writing-intensive seminar-based environment, who are ideally motivated by social justice issues while providing leadership and mentorship to a staff of counselors and peers.

Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate the establishment of annual recruitment goals, oversee the development and documentation and execution of the admission rubric and requirements

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment/outreach strategy for Lang that integrates with overall undergraduate recruitment plan 

  • Engage stakeholders within and across the university to develop and execute school specific enrollment and financial aid strategies to ensure meeting budget and headcount goals. 

  • Analyze historic data and current trends to provide data-driven rationale for strategies. Measure and report ROI on initiatives.

  • Maintain operational calendar that allocates staff appropriately for a high-volume office and that ensures good customer service 

  • Oversee hiring, training, supervision of direct reports. Provide mentorship, identify training opportunities, professional development, and areas of concentration to develop junior staff. 

  • Manage admission budget and monitor expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility and adherence to university  policy

  • Represent The New School Undergraduate Programs in a full range of recruitment activities and special events, both on- and off-campus. Research and recommend a schedule appropriate to the territory and pool of applicants. Plan and develop new activities and events as needed

  • Build relationships with external constituents at secondary schools, colleges, CBO's and independent counseling centers. Develop and maintain partnerships with organizations identified as strategic to TNS

  • Train staff annually on The New Schoolâ™s holistic and equitable admission application review 

  • Responsible for the oversight of BA/BFA admissions between Eugene Lang College, Parsons School of Design, and the School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.

  • Partner with other university leaders representing the division in university-wide planning and policy decisions. Serve as the primary link to faculty and administrative offices on matters of undergraduate admission policy and procedures for Eugene Lang College.  Responsible for dissemination of information, implementation of strategy, and reporting on progress and outcomes.

  • In collaboration with Operations and Systems, define the application process and ensure the application build collects the legal and appropriate data to analyze and process applications. Ensure that the business processes in the coding of the CRM align with TNS policy and provide a smooth application process for applicants and create processes that align the CRM systems to the application process and ultimately lead to a smooth handoff of data to the Registrar's Office and Institutional Research team.

  • Chair admissions committee that reviews undergraduate applicants

  •  Consult with The New Schoolâ™'s Office of Marketing and Communication to develop and schedule all Lang admissions publications 

  • Manage the inquiry, applicant, and admitted student pools including outreach via telephone, social media, print and electronic communication plans 

  • Coordinate with the other admission directors on new recruitment and communication strategies

  • Oversee the coordination of on campus events and daily campus visitation programs for Lang admission in concert with the Enrollment Services team

  • Actively participate in campus programming related to orientation, retention, graduation, receptions, and other events 

  • Other duties and projects as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelorâ™s degree required; a graduate degree preferred 

  • Experience with a liberal arts admission operation 

  • Possess a strong knowledge of undergraduate education admission recruitment policies and practices 

  • Proven, successful track record in achieving college admissions goals 

  • Significant, progressively responsible management experience in college admission (5-7 years) 

  • Proven record of building a team and managing a large staff in a fast paced environment 

  • Outstanding public relations and communication skills 

  • Possess knowledge of admission information technology, including prospect management, student information  systems, and report generation tools 

  • Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice, and emotional intelligence that fosters collaboration and inclusion from stakeholders across the university and within the community at large.

  • Vocal advocate of the value of an Liberal Arts education

  • Experience working with the CRM Slate 

  • Driverâ™s license and valid passport required 

  • Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 policy and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters Degree

  • Strong preference for candidates who are familiar with Eugene Lang Collegeâ™s peer institutions and market position

  •  Prior experience working with international populations 

  • Experience working with both traditional and non- traditional students

Work Mode:

  • Hybrid/Remote - Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions. 

Salary Range:

$90,000 - $95,000 per annum
