Is problem-solving a part of your DNA? Our Student Affairs team is looking for a Systems and Business Analyst who is skilled at turning complex challenges into practical solutions by understanding customer needs and requirements, developing and implementing business processes, managing project investigations and implementations, and leading the configuration of systems that support customer goals.

The division of Student Affairs houses 22 departments supporting student life at RIT. With independent missions, staff, and services, the departments of Student Affairs also work collaboratively and have some integrated operations providing a variety of high quality services and programs focused on engagement, well-being, sense of belonging, and student success.

The Student Affairs Systems and Business Analyst has responsibility for investigation, development, implementation, and execution of business process and technology efforts that enhance the student experience with Student Affairs programs and services, in support of the RIT mission. This position supports the office of Student Affairs Systems and Business Analysis in advancing information security and the implementation of sustainable technology solutions that create the optimal student life experience. This is accomplished through business process analysis, project management, serving as campus administrator for applications owned by the Division of Student Affairs and facilitating divisional use of enterprise technology solutions.

This position acts as the representative on University cross-functional teams to ensure that technology needs are met for all of Student Affairs and as the primary liaison for technology vendors and ITS. This position is a key member of the Assessment, Technology, and Communications team, supporting the Division of Student Affairs, and reports directly to the ATC Director of Systems and Business Analysis.

Primary Responsibilities

Business Analysis
  • Lead business unit and cross-functional teams in the gathering and documentation of business requirements and then translating these into functional and system requirement specifications.
  • Gathers, analyzes, maps, defines, and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, and interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and reporting for low to moderately complex projects.
  • Support continued improvement of business processes by identifying strategic opportunities to leverage available and emerging technology.
  • Develop and manage business processes that assist in the strategic and successful use of the applications in support of Divisional and/or unit level goals.
Project Management
  • Lead technology project investigations and implementations; including new technologies, and new functionality of existing technologies.
  • Develop project plans, set milestones, assemble and manage resources, monitor and report on project progress.
  • Manage the prioritization of competing priorities across a variety of stakeholders.
  • Lead change management for successful process and project implementations.
Application Administration (for assigned applications)
  • Responsible for supporting, maintaining, monitoring, updating, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing applications.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for vendors and RIT Information Technology Services (ITS) for assigned applications.
  • Performs analytical and reporting responsibilities for unit, cross-functional, or institutional data.
  • Handle private and confidential data in compliance with appropriate external and RIT regulations, guidelines, and policies.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience
  • 3-5 years experience in a fast paced environment utilizing software systems to achieve successful customer service, operational and technical outcomes, or a combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience with business technology platforms, required.
  • 2 years experience and/or training with project management and application implementation projects.
  • 2 years experience creating documentation and providing training to various groups on applications and/or technology usage.
  • 2 years experience at translating business requirements into technical requirements, design specifications, and alternatives.
Specialized Skills
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present technical concepts in an appropriate manner that can be understood by business partners, technical staff, and end users
  • Ability to work directly with end users to translate data management requirements into effective solutions
  • Ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse and multicultural audiences
  • Ability to establish, build, and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy, and honesty with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Strong customer service skills including maintain effective working relationships with a variety of constituencies.
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn
Technical Abilities:
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills. Ability to solve problems related to technology systems, business operations, and data reporting.
  • Ability to analyze technical and data management challenges and evaluate the impact of potential solutions from both a business and technical perspective.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and summarize information from a variety of sources.
  • Strong IT application testing skills for stand-alone and integrated applications.
  • Ability to lead projects from conception through implementation.
  • Ability to take initiative, plan, prioritize, and execute a variety of projects that must be completed simultaneously and on time.
  • Adept at prioritizing and juggling multiple projects, as well as setting and meeting timelines.
  • Ability to comply with standards and regulations related to the storage and handling of private and confidential information.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
