Viterbi Admission and Student Engagement (VASE) is seeks to recruit an Associate Director to join our Academic Services team. The VASE Academic Services team provides advisement services and academic co-curricular programs to undergraduate and graduate engineering students. The Associate Director will serve as an advising specialist for Viterbi, designing and implementing training for new advisors and ongoing development opportunities for all advisors. The Associate Director will also serve as a âfloatingâ advisor, who will temporarily assist with academic advising in Viterbi departments when departments are understaffed due to employee transitions, employee leaves, and/or increased caseloads. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, organized, and flexible, with excellent communication and project management skills.
The Associate Directors core responsibilities include:
Understand and be well-versed in advising and student development theory and be able to apply these concepts to their practice and delivery of services.
Advise on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation, and graduation counseling and clearance. Monitor student progress and update database information.
Evaluate student problems - academic, administrative, or personal - and refer students to appropriate student services offices for additional support. Liaise with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.
Serve as a floating advisor for all Viterbi departments; temporarily assist with student advising in departments during periods of understaffing.
Provide advising for minor programs housed in the ENGR academic division.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge on school and university programs, policies, and procedures. Communicate information to department advisors, serve as reference, and provide guidance to advisors as needed.
Design and implement new advisor training and ongoing development opportunities for advisors in all Viterbi departments.
Assist in the development and production of the annual curriculum guide for undergraduate students.
Provide support for Academic Services programs including new student orientation and the pre-engineering internal transfer process.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
The Associate Director, Academic Services is expected to model USC values and support a culture of service and support. The annual base salary range for this position is $60,309.82 - 67,138.84. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope of responsibilities of the position, the candidateâs work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 2 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Student personnel administration
Preferred qualifications: Masterâs degree. Knowledge of USC programs and services. Experience with database systems. Strong organizational skills and ability to set priorities in order to complete assignments within deadlines. Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads
