Student Affairs Marketing is responsible for strategizing, creating, implementing, and assessing the marketing and communications efforts for the Division of Student Affairs and the 22 departments within it. This team creates integrated marketing communications through digital and print campaigns, photography, video, writing, social media, and more. The departments we create marketing and communications for include the Vice Provost/Dean of Students Office, the Student Health Center, the Indiana Memorial Union, Recreational Sports, Student Legal Services, Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, Development, and more.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Helps to develop and implement email newsletter content plans. Tracks stories, writes blurbs, and sets up and sends emails using SalesForce.
Collaborates with other team members, both full-time and part-time, to strategize marketing solutions that effectively blend copy and visuals together based on the audience and medium. Attends recurring and ad hoc meetings with colleagues, clients, and coworkers to develop marketing and communications solutions.
Leads a team of student staff made up of copywriters. Assigns work, proofreads ads, edits, writes, and brainstorms effective copy solutions.
Utilizes web and writing skills to build, maintain, and update websites within the Division of Student Affairs. Keeps in contact with departmental colleagues to ensure pages are updated with current and accurate information. Ensures pages are accessible, event-driven, dynamic, and utilize responsive design principles.
General Responsibilities
Writes and edits clear, informative written content for various communications needs, audiences, and publication formats, assessing for relevance, accuracy, and appropriateness; tailors the degree of copyediting to a project's specific needs.
Independently corrects basic and complex grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and syntax errors and performs edits that improve overall writing quality of communications and ensure alignment with university mission, strategies, objectives, and brand and accessibility guidelines.
Performs reviews of peer writing to ensure grammar, quality, tone, and level of depth are sufficient; may also review against requirements for specific publications, including content, length, brand guidelines, and deadline specifications.
Regularly consults with writers, printers, faculty, staff, and/or other stakeholders to ensure adherence to writing and publications deadlines.
Identifies user and audience needs and analyzes usage of existing content in order to identify content gaps; plans, develops, and publishes internal and external communications.
Drafts sample communications to be reviewed with manager at project deadline checkpoints.
May provide guidance to other Writing/Editing Specialists.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
