Position Summary
The Director of Stewardship reports to the Senior Director of Strategic Engagement within Medical Advancement and is responsible for creating printed and digital materials used to report, recognize and celebrate the major philanthropic commitments of donors to the School of Medicine and Siteman Cancer Center. The successful applicant for this role will be an experienced writer, creative thinker, team player, and innovative professional accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment.
Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to each living donor, surviving family member, or other persons or entities as required by endowment gift agreements, on a regular basis regarding the use of their gift with an emphasis placed on reports for endowed professorships and scholarships. Compile impact reports and compose update letters for major gift donors giving to expendable research funds.
Manage stewardship staff, currently including an Associate Director of Stewardship.Â
Conduct an on-going audit of all donor funds, including professorships, scholarships, lectureships, prizes, and research funds to ensure an exhaustive, accurate and ongoing record of all Medical School and Siteman Cancer Center funds. Set reporting deadlines; develop contacts with other school and university offices (budget office, financial aid, student affairs, and departments) to make accessing information more productive and efficient.Â
As necessary, research the history of each endowed gift, gather biographical information on the donor(s), and a photograph if available. Present recipients with this information about their donor, annually to scholarship recipients, and to others as they are appointed.
Prepare a monthly report for the Assistant Vice Chancellor to enable them to track progress of stewardship activities.
Oversee the Deanâ™s gift acknowledgment letter and tribute gift processes, managed by the Associate Director of Stewardship.
Serve as the liaison with the Office of Financial Aid and collaborate with the Executive Director of Donor Relations in the Office of Major Gifts and Capital Projects.
Provide content and support for medical donor and alumni relations events, as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in English, journalism, or writing.
Five years of professional writing and/or development experience.
Experience working in an intellectually rigorous and complex medical school environment.
Past supervisory experience.
Experience in a fundraising environment.
Exceptional writer and editor.
Ability to effectively communicate scientific and technical concepts to a general audience.
Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
Proven ability to work collaboratively across functions and departments.
Capability to analyze, condense, and synthesize information to provide accurate analysis and summaries.
Flexible, able to adapt to changing circumstances and manage multiple priorities.
Possess a genuine commitment to the advancement of science and education.
Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and experience with constituent databases.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree.
Minimum of five years of related experience.

Salary Range
$70,300.00 - $120,000.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
