Position Summary
SDSU Imperial Valley is an integral division of SDSU located 120 miles east of the San Diego campus. SDSU IV is administered by the Dean of the Campus, the Sr. Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Student Affairs, the Imperial Valley Campus Administrator, Associate Director of Development and Assistant Director of Facilities Services and Projects. SDSU IV offers undergraduate education, credential programs for teacher preparation, and various Masters of Arts programs. There are approximately 1,000 students enrolled each semester. There are 21 full time faculty members, approximately 90 part-time faculty, and 35 staff members. The ten-building complex at Calexico is open 12 months a year. SDSU IV has one building with six classrooms, a computer lab, a student room, and five offices at Brawley.

The Associate Director is a mid-level fundraising professional responsible for raising gifts to support the SDSU Imperial Valley ($50,000+). The Associate Director is a member of the university's development team and reports to the Executive Director of Development with a dotted line to the Dean of SDSU Imperial Valley. The incumbent is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing a major gift program for SDSU Imperial Valley initiatives. The incumbent will work closely with the SDSU Imperial Valley Dean to identify, cultivate and solicit individuals, corporations and foundations.
The primary responsibility for this position is to raise major gifts for SDSU Imperial Valley's funding initiatives (operational, capital, scholarships, endowments). This position will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects working to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects. The Associate Director will manage a portfolio, coordinating activities of prospect management, research, scholarship, annual and planned giving, and corporate and foundation relations. The Associate Director will actively conduct and prepare basic prospect research, developing profiles on major gift prospects, corporations and foundations and summarizing verbally and in writing, pertinent and detailed information as it relates to priorities and strategic plans. The Associate Director will work with the Dean and Executive Director of Development on strategies for prospects in his/her portfolio. The Associate Director will work with the Dean and Executive Director of Development to define annual long-term fundraising strategic plans, goals, communication and engagement strategies for SDSU Imperial Valley.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, at-will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU Imperial Valley in Calexico.
Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree in relevant field or combination of education and experience.
A minimum of one year of development experience or related work such as sales, marketing, communications, or community/public relations.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required
Valid California Driver's License within 10 days of hire
Specialized Skills
A high degree of interest in and commitment to higher education and philanthropy and the ability to articulate a compelling case for annual support of a public institution of higher education.
Ability to utilize computer applications and databases to correspond, prepare written materials and manage time/workflow.
Ability to interpret biographical, corporate, and foundation information and to prepare concise written basic profiles and summaries of donor/prospect information.
Proficiency with computer applications (i.e. email; word processing; spreadsheet, presentation software and database applications).
Working knowledge of electronic databases, other reference sources, library reference tools and research procedures.
Must have the ability to travel and attend off-campus appointments and events.
May on occasion be required to attend events or perform duties outside of normal work hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Fundraising experience in a large, complex university or non-profit.
Experience working with volunteers and with corporate executives.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
