Wittenberg University is accepting applications for a Associate Director for Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging. This position is primarily responsible for the coordination of intercultural programs and resources for underrepresented populations at Wittenberg University. This includes leading programs and activities to increase the involvement of diverse student populations, planning heritage months, and advising culturally based student organizations additionally, the AD serves as program lead for the WiTT Connected Pre-Semester and mentoring program.   The AD will demonstrate a strong knowledge base of campus climate concerns within the undergraduate student community and is responsible to provide a comprehensive range of advocacy, education, information, and referrals for student groups advised by the McClain Center for Diversity. The AD will provide individual support to students in their social, leadership, and identity development. This is a full-time, exempt-level position reporting to the Associate Dean of Students and Director of the McClain Center for Diversity & The Womyn's Center. 
 

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  1. Plan, implement and lead programs and activities to increase involvement of diverse student populations including, but not exclusive to, LGBTQ+ identified students, international students, Asian/Asian American students, African/Black/African American students, and Latinx students, and other potentially, marginalized groups as needed. 
  2. Apply identity development, intersectionality and/or social justice framework/ theories to all programs, training, and retreats, that focus on student engagement and retention. 
  3. Plan heritage months by developing monthly programming and coordinating a campus calendar for each Cultural Heritage month. 
  4. Advise cultural organizations - Concerned Black Students, American International Association and the Gender and Sexual Diversity Alliance; develop strong advisory relationships with advisees. 
  5. Apply student and leadership development theories to inform advisement practices. 
  6. Inform students of university policies and procedures, train students in event planning and management, and assist with critical decision-making. 
  7. Provide support for organizations with budgets, contracts, and evening/ weekend event coverage and advisement when needed. 
  8. Facilitate inter-organization communication and collaboration. Initiate and plan community building programs and meetings for constituencies represented in assigned advisement portfolio. 
  9. Develop and implement programs and activities for WiTT Connected Student Success Series. Use the concepts of Ubuntu, "I am because we are" for students interested in celebrating diversity and inclusion. The community's aim is to create a focus on empowerment, inclusion, and academic success. 
  10. Coordinate Witt Connected Mentoring Program and facilitated student interactions that enhance student relationships and their socialization to the Wittenberg student experience. 
  11. Provide individual support (including referral) to students in their social, leadership, and identity development. With the Associate Dean, provide advocacy and support for students on campus issues and bias incidents. Assist the Associate Dean with the development and implementation of campus education projects following campus incidents. 
  12. Directly supervise 2 -3 undergraduate student ambassadors responsible for McClain Center for Diversity & social media management. 
  13. Serve as liaison to Enrollment management, Advancement, and the Tiger Counseling Center for Diverse recruitment, alumni and wellness themed programming.  
  14. Oversee and manage social media accounts for Center for Diversity (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter). 
  15. Serve on cross-functional work teams and committees including but not limited to the CARE Team; Homecoming Committee; Welcome Week Committee; and other student programming committees. 
  16. Assist with programs and services that further the missions of the McClain Center for Diversity, Division of Student Development and Wittenberg University. 
  17. Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, crisis response, and ad-hoc committees etc. 


Job Requirements:

Requirements include:

  • A bachelor's degree in higher education/student affairs or related field is required. A Maser's degree is preferred.
  • One to three years experience working in higher education or relevant work experience is required.
  • Excellent customer service, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of constituents, solve problems quickly and professionally, anticipate needs, and communicate proactively.
  • Candidates should be committed to student success and have a commitment to and understanding of a liberal arts education and diversity at a church-related college.
  • Competency and experience using Microsoft Office software, specifically proficient in the use of Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint with the ability and desire to learn additional software applications as necessary.
  • Night and weekend work will be required depending on campus events and needs.
  • Frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds (with assistance) for various event and activity needs. 
  • Frequently utilizes computer for extended periods (up to 50% of the work day).
