Position Summary
The Chemistry Department at Washington University in St. Louis administers supplemental Organic Chemistry programming to support, mentor, and train students enrolled in our Organic Chemistry courses. These supplemental learning programs are essential components of the Organic Chemistry curriculum, with approximately 400 students enrolled and 20 peer mentors/leaders trained per semester. The Academic Learning Program Manager is responsible for program management of these collaborative learning programs, ensuring they are well-integrated, cohesive, and remain strongly interrelated to facilitate administration and aid student learning.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Administer and develop supplemental learning programs (e.g. Weekly Workshops, Ready to React, special topic tutorials and help sessions) for Organic Chemistry lecture courses. Oversee the recruitment process for peer leaders. Train and mentor students designated as peer leaders, providing instruction and materials. Formally evaluate and provide feedback to peer leaders.
Coordinate room assignments and leader availability for supplemental learning groups and help sessions, and assign students to learning groups. Coordinate with other departments and supplementary programs (e.g. PLTL) to minimize schedule conflicts.
Develop and teach (or co-teach) assigned seminar for course credit to train peer leaders in facilitating weekly workshops.
Coordinate undergraduate learning assessments and program analyses. Evaluate results to analyze impact and further develop programs as needed.
Create surveys, course and supplementary program materials, and letters of reference. Print and distribute packets, and post files for leaders and students using Canvas platform.
Respond to questions from students about administration of the Organic Chemistry courses and collaborative learning programs, about chemistry content-related questions, and about exam and quiz grading. Proof-read quizzes, exams, and other course materials for clarity and accuracy.
Recruit and organize proctors and graders for midterm and final exams. Coordinate room reservations for exams and grading. Establish grading rubrics and lead grading sessions by training and overseeing learning assistants in the use of Gradescope as an online grading platform.
During the summer months, the Academic Learning Program Manager may be involved with educational-development activities or education-research projects, collaboratively with members of the Chemistry faculty and/or the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
PhD in relevant field.
Two years of teaching experience in the field of Organic Chemistry.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of current teaching methods and pedagogy in the relevant field.Â
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Willingness to learn innovative teaching techniques and philosophies.
Good management and supervisory skills.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Required Qualifications
Masterâ™s degree in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or related field and one year of related experience.

Salary Range
$50,500.00 - $86,200.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
