As one of the world's leading public health research and educational institutions, Michigan Public Health is working to create a healthier, more equitable world for populations across the globe. We are anchored by a community of 185 outstanding faculty and more than 400 committed research and administrative staff. The school offers bachelor’s, master's, and doctoral degrees representing six academic departments that collectively train more than 1,300 students annually. We have a growing interdisciplinary research enterprise with more than $90M per year in externally funded research and more than three dozen research centers.

The School of Public Health is looking for an experienced professional to work as part of a high-functioning team in the school's Office for Student Engagement and Practice (OSEP), focusing on graduate and undergraduate career services. Specifically, we are looking for someone to elevate opportunities for our students and alumni. You will represent the school and our mission to many audiences while having an understanding of the importance of career readiness for college students across degree levels. We are seeking am experienced and dynamic staff leader with a commitment to contributing to a diverse, equitable and exclusive environment for all members of our community. Our mission is to work as a team and promote a culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and excellent student services and coaching.

  • Report to the Director of Student Affairs in OSEP and will lead the careers team ensuring the vision/mission is articulated and outcomes are measured and achieved.
  • Provide strategic vision and guidance for career services including technology, partnership development, student development, advising, and assessment.
  • Manage the budget and oversee annual reports including local/unit metrics, metrics for national reports, and accreditation reporting.
  • Be the primary liaison and strategist in nurturing relationships within departments and programs and with other U-M Career Services professionals.
  • Expertise in counseling/coaching and program development and the ability to advise our students on job and internship opportunities across degree levels.
  • Develop creative service delivery strategies and monitor/benchmark models of other campus units and peer institutions.  Develop networks with our public health peers and colleagues and inform school partners on local, national, and international trends and growth projections.
  • Together with the employer relations staff, identify and pursue relationships with companies that are of interest to SPH students.
  • Provide expertise, advising, and support to enhance the Student-to-Alumni Mentoring program as a tool for student growth, inclusion, and equity. Work with the Development and Alumni Engagement team to identify alumni experts for engagement opportunities and refine the alumni tracking process.
  • Lead the careers team's coordinated efforts regarding required internships, and experiential learning, and work collaboratively with the Public Health Practice team.
  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, student personnel, or related field. 3 to 5 years of related experience such as career services, and career counseling,  
  • Experience networking and forming productive professional relationships within our community, the public health field, and with employers and alumni.
  • Experience identifying and implementing tools and databases required for integrating technology into service delivery for career services.
  • Proficient at using social media and web-based tools to engage prospective employers and members.
  • Recognize the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion and enthusiasm for identifying and making the most of the opportunities presented by our differences.
  • Strategic planning and excellent management experience.  

The OSEP team currently works a hybrid schedule as dictated by our work and student/employer needs.
