Description:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Affairs, the Coordinator of Student Engagement supports the development and administration of a comprehensive co-curricular experience, as outlined by the leadership of the Office of Student Affairs. The Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of programs and services that guide the student organizations and develop leadership skills. In doing so, the Coordinator will empower student leaders with resources, organization development, and program implementation. The Coordinator will participate fully as a member of the Office of Student Affairs, inclusive and responsive to student interests and needs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Advise Student Council leaders, inclusive of implementation of student programs that benefit social, occupational, and professional well-being, leadership trainings, and systematic resources such as the annual review of the Student Council Constitution and professional organization policies and procedures.
Provide departmental reports for all recognized student clubs and professional organizations, inclusive of student organization renewal efforts and logistical support of student events (such as vendor selection, price negotiation and contract acquisition) under the guidance of departmental leadership.
Manage the annual call for faculty mentors for all student professional organizations and serve as the administrative liaison between student leaders and mentors.
Provides content for the communications team to contribute to the medical school website, Student Council website content, student achievements and publications for Zucker School of Medicine social media accounts and a student-to-staff newsletter.
Represents student leaders across all strategic partners, such as Hofstra University, Northwell Health, and within the medical school. Provide bi-annual reports to leadership regarding student organization accomplishments and upcoming events.
Participate in departmental goal setting, serve on committees, and special projects upon request. Participate in professional activity and development as outlined by the Assistant Director.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field preferred.
Must have experience and current knowledge of applying best practices in student affairs and/or student development theory.
Must be a collaborative professional and have demonstrated experience in advising with strong organizational skills, training skills, and superior verbal and written communication skills with proven experience conducting presentations for varied audiences.
Must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others. Proven commitment to anti-racist work is preferred.
Ability to work effectively in teams, which includes colleagues, and students with demonstrated ability to use current computer technology (Microsoft Office, Google Products, and Zoom) proficiently.
