Detailed Job Description Please note: Will be required to work one evening a week during the academic year (10:30 am to 7:00 pm). Reporting to the Associate Clinical Director, the Medical Office Assistant performs clinical and clerical duties to support the Student Health Center. The Medical Office Assistant works directly with healthcare practice staff to collect lab samples, prepare patients for exams, take vital signs, perform ECGs, complete venipunctures, assist staff with procedures, and perform other necessary clinical and clerical duties as assigned. The successful candidate will provide back up support for reception and check-out areas; he/she will assist with ensuring student immunization compliance and scanning of medical records.
Responsibilities:
Prepares patients for exams by escorting them from reception area to exam room. Obtains height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate, pulse, and oxygen saturation. Accurately documents results in the Electronic Medical Record. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records.
Performs laboratory activities such as: phlebotomy, collection of lab specimens, prepare specimens for lab pickup.
Performs basic point of care laboratory tests including, but not limited to, urinalysis, blood glucose, rapid mono, hemoglobin, throat cultures, and pregnancy tests
Assists providers and nurses with exams and procedures; prepares, cleans, and replenishes patient rooms and areas.
Performs routine clerical activities as back up coverage for the front desk; activities include greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, scanning documents, and reviewing immunizations.
Prepares patients for exams. Accurately obtains and records patient information such as height, weight, and vital signs in the Electronic Medical Record. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records.
Performs venipunctures, prepares specimen for lab pickup
Performs basic point of care laboratory tests including, but not limited to, blood glucose, rapid mono, hemoglobin, Covid-19 testing, throat cultures, and pregnancy tests
Performs ECG's
Cleans, prepares, and replenishes supplies in exam rooms and patient areas after use
Assists nurses and providers with patient examinations and procedures
Provides back up coverage for front/back desk (greets patients, schedules appointments; assists patients with completing forms, performs cashier duties, scans documents into Electronic Medical Record)
Reviews and accurately interprets immunization data submitted by students for compliance with New York State and RIT regulations; enters information and processes appropriately into the Electronic Medical Record. Answers questions from students and parents regarding NYS immunization law and requirements.
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complies with New York State legal regulations.
Participate in ongoing professional development and/or participate on department, division and university committees, task forces and projects as assigned and appropriate for the role.

Minimum Qualifications HS diploma or GED AND one of the following
Completed diploma/certificate in Medical Assisting from an accredited program of one year duration OR
A completed diploma/certificate in Medical Assisting from an accredited program of less than one year in duration and post Medical Assistant Program experience in a clinical/healthcare setting that together equals at least one year OR
If not certified, will accept 3 years of medical assistant experience in a clinical/healthcare setting
