Job Summary:
Northwestern University is looking for a 1st Shift Lead Maintenance Technician. The schedule for the position is Tuesday-Saturday, 7:30AM to 4:00PM.
Under limited supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor, the Lead Maintenance Technician provides general day-to-day custodial services and performs lead duties to facilitate work performed by Maintenance Technicians (Custodians) and temporary staff. The Lead Maintenance Technician implements work plans to provide emergency and scheduled custodial services. They adhere to customer service standards by working courteously and cooperatively with student residents, conference guests, and staff.
The pay rate for this position is $20.40 per hour.
Specific Responsibilities:
General Custodial Services 45%
Dust mop, wet mop, spot mop floors; sweep, wet mop stairs and stair landings; strip, seal and wax floors
Dust and polish furniture, doors, woodwork, radiators, desks, and windowsills
Empty waste and recycling containers and ash urns
Wash and spot clean walls; clean glass in partitions, entryways, doors to offices, classrooms, etc.
Clean, deodorize, and sanitize rest room facilities and showers; replenish rest room supplies
Operate and maintain vacuum cleaning equipment (including vacuuming carpets); carpet-cleaning equipment (spot clean, extract, and apply protective treatment to carpeting), and floor care equipment
Remove snow and ice from assigned areas around buildings; clean debris from areas around buildings
Perform other custodial duties and administrative duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor
Respond to calls for emergency custodial service such as cleaning up spills, body fluids, broken glass, floods, and respond to residence requests for linen, storage of items and/or luggage, etc.
Lead Staff of Custodians and Temporary Workers 25%
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, plan, assign, lead and inspect work for Custodians and temporary workers.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, train and enforce job requirements, proper equipment and product usage, and safety standards.
Receive messages for custodial/maintenance requests, assign the appropriate employees and refer to proper authority as needed.
In the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, ensure that work schedules are met and work assignments are completed; review and report work progress of the crew to the Maintenance Supervisor
Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request necessary supplies.
Respond to miscellaneous requests as assigned by supervisor and/or guests/residents.
Complete job orders as assigned.
As directed and in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform room checkout inspections and other duties related to room changes.
Monitor for and resolve any unsightly, unsafe or unsanitary conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a valid driver’s license
Competencies:
Knowledge of institutional or commercial cleaning methods, techniques, cleaning chemicals, supplies and equipment
General knowledge of the tools, equipment, and setups for use with conferences
Basic knowledge of the activities and services necessary to efficiently provide services for conference activities
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow workers, residents, and conference guests
Knowledge of procedures for accident reporting
Ability to perform duties promptly and efficiently under pressure of deadlines and with interruptions
Ability to be flexible in order to meet the needs of the residences
Ability to work independently and use sound judgment
Ability to lead a group of employees
Ability to give basic instructions to others
General math comprehension
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Knowledge of hospitality industry with key emphasis on quality service
Ability to maintain adequate attendance
