Stanford University Department of Medicine is seeking a Senior Administrative Division Director to provide strategic leadership for administrative and operational functions for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is one of the largest academic and clinical units within the Department of Medicine, providing clinical services to more than 250,000 patients annually through Stanford Health Care (SHC) and the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System. We deliver compassionate and cutting-edge preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, arrhythmia, aortic disease and heart failure.
The Senior Director works strategically with an exceptional group of faculty and staff in a dynamic work environment. He/she/they organize and leads all financial and administrative affairs in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine consistent with standards of performance that ensure University, School, SHC, and department business standards and objectives are met. Partner with and advise the Division Chief on all faculty issues including recruitment, retention, compensation and clinical and research excellence. Ensure compliance in all functional areas including Finance, Human Resources, Research Administration, Clinical Administration, Facilities, Health & Safety, Education & Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs. Build and lead the administrative infrastructure to achieve Division goals. Work in tandem with Department of Medicine leadership on long-range plans, program development, and fund-raising and philanthropy. Develop clinical outreach strategy and partner with SHC Business Development, community physician leadership and others on implementation. Responsible for selecting and retaining excellent finance and administrative staff to support the faculty in their research, clinical and educational missions. The Senior Director must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Duties include:
Direct 25 administrative and finance staff, including managerial staff, and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization.
Establish and manage clinical programs including outreach agreements and recruiting for new faculty, clinician educators, and instructors.
Provide financial leadership over a $30M clinical budget to maximize clinical profitability.
Partner with Chief and DFA in working with Hospital(s) and Clinics to develop business plans and programs; negotiate and monitor funds flow and productivity targets.
Represent the Division's needs in regard to research, clinical and service facilities, negotiate on behalf of the Division's current and future needs with the school and health system administration.
Independently initiate and create strategic plans for division(s) managed. Make recommendations that may impact the unit's academic, clinical and research capabilities.
Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with academic and administrative policies and procedures within the unit; develop new internal best practices
Ensure the financial success of the division. Oversee and/or manage the finances across all sources for the annual budget cycle, including developing, monitoring, analyzing forecasting and reporting. Recommend and develop strategies for general cost containment, strategic investments, and growth management. Coordinate with the hospital(s) budgeting process, negotiate funds flow agreements. Negotiate funding with the hospital(s) for programmatic needs with the DFA.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, or a related field or equivalent, such as a CPA or other advanced certification.
Demonstrated understanding and experience with management issues in a highly complex clinical service and research environment.
Demonstrated senior-level leadership experience, strategic partnership and negotiations skills.
Strong financial and analytical expertise in budget forecasting, development and management.
Proven ability to define issues, strategically plan options and devise workable solutions.
Demonstrated skills and experience in human resources management and policy implementation; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through program development or other strategic actions.
Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate, and develop strong staff, supervisors, and managers.
Effective presentation and communication skills.
Ability to implement changes on time and within budget; experience with Lean process improvement or other formal process improvement technique preferred.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and seven years of experience in administrative and financial management, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

This remote role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $119,000 to $206,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
