Counseling Services (CS) is committed to the development of the whole person: intellectually, emotionally, socially, spiritually, and physically. The Senior Staff Clinician is responsible for providing a high level of direct clinical service to students and consultation to the community. The Senior Staff Clinician will be able to effectively work with students from diverse identity backgrounds and life experiences, maintaining a commitment to equity and inclusion that supports outreach to and help-seeking by students from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Senior Staff Clinician:

  • Provide evidence-based, culturally responsive clinical services for Stonehill College’s student population, which includes intake assessment, individual counseling, crisis intervention, and BASICS.
  • Facilitate referrals to other student services and area mental health services, or other case management needs that may arise, providing support.
  • Serve as a leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and work to advance the college’s mission of diversity and inclusion.
  • Conduct mandated assessments as needed for students referred by Student Affairs, Community Standards, and/or Residence Life.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical records/documentation in the electronic medical records system (EMR) utilized by Counseling Services.
  • Participate in clinical after-hours on-call rotation as a backup consultant to a 24/7 Line service provider.
  • Provide psychoeducational group work in a small group format, as needed.
  • In collaboration with Counseling Services colleagues, offer inclusive workshops, presentations, and social media outreach content on counseling/mental health topics to students, faculty, staff, and the professional community.
  • Offer consultation to students, faculty, and staff on pertinent mental health topics or concerns.
  • Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and professional codes of ethics and maintain licensure/CEU requirements as required by the discipline.
  • Adhere to guidelines in the Counseling Services’ Staff Manual and general policies/procedures for employees of Stonehill College.
  • Seek, as well as provide, collegial input as needed for clinical case consultations.
  • Serve as a leader in CS for consultation/collaboration with other staff when Director/Associate Director is unavailable.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students/clients, parents/guardians, faculty, and staff.

Institutional Mission:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the College’s Catholic mission and identity and how Catholic traditions and values enhance the student experience.
  • Serve on college committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Will collaborate with Director/Associate Director in facilitating the graduate internship training program, which may include sharing responsibility in areas such as presenting topic-based training at weekly intern training hours, providing individual supervision, and/or group supervision for graduate-level trainees from local area Masters of Counseling and/or Masters of Social Work programs.

Education & Experience

  • A Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work is required. 
  • A Massachusetts independent licensure as a mental health provider is required. 
  • A licensed Psychologist or LICSW is preferred, but LMHC is considered with relatable experience. Verification of license required. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of counseling experience with a young-adult-aged population is required along with prior experience in a college or university setting.
  • Prior experience providing clinical supervision in a group or individual format is preferred and must meet eligibility criteria to supervise graduate interns in at least 1 mental health discipline (e.g.: independent licensure, post-license experience, etc.). 
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations and the capacity to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse academic community required.
  • Established recognition of the effects that discrimination, prejudice, and systemic oppression have on marginalized individuals, and how these negative biases may lead to psychological trauma and stress. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to embracing and advancing diversity and inclusion in all aspects of campus life.
