Job Description

The Thea Bowman AHANA Intercultural Center is hiring an Associate Director, Intercultural Programming. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with the Director in providing leadership in carrying out the programmatic and operational functions of the Bowman Center. This role is responsible for the planning and implementation of several large events, including the signature intercultural programs for the department. In addition, the Associate Director creates and delivers intercultural programming for students and, in collaboration with the Office for Institutional Diversity, the general BC community on issues related to diversity and inclusion and divisional strategic priorities.

The Associate Director serves as a resource to undergraduate students in supporting their holistic development. The Associate Director serves as a programmatic advisor to a portfolio of multicultural student organizations, student programs, and will coordinate mentoring programs. The Associate Director will also serve as liaison and support for LGBTQ students and their allies on campus. This work will include: implementing existing and creating new programmatic initiatives; coordinate campus resources; work with campus partners across the university to support students and reflect on their identities; provide continuing opportunities for students, as well as, faculty and staff (in collaboration with the Office for Institutional Diversity) to engage in dialogue around LGBTQ issues; and will support individual students through referrals to appropriate resources.

Further, the Associate Director, Intercultural Programming coordinates and oversees programs and services that directly impact the student experience and engagement within a Jesuit, Catholic context. The Associate Director is responsible for developing and managing processes that ensure successful, outcome-driven student programming aligned with University and divisional strategic goals around diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Associate Director supervises an Assistant Director and a graduate assistant.

In order to create a more inclusive community within the Division of Student Affairs, each staff member is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $65,800 to $82,250; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Must use professional judgment and creative thinking to respond to challenges and situations arising within the office's intercultural programs
  • Must understand and work with risk management as needed when developing programs.
  • Expertise in multicultural student leadership and programming
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a significant program with budget responsibility
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with the University's academic and student life areas
  • Ability to advocate for and provide leadership to students
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
