Job Description:


To support student success through the coordination of the Career Peer Coaching program that provides individual and group sessions on career education/readiness. The position is responsible for ensuring students employed in the Career Peer Coaching program are trained and supported to deliver career coaching and workshops to students on a variety of career education/readiness topics. The Graduate Assistant is a part-time (on average 20 hours a week), limited-term, internship position.

Position Hourly Range: $21.43

Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Peer Career Coaching Program Coordination
  • Co-coordinates the undergraduate Peer Career Coaching program under the guidance of Assistant Director for Career Education & Counseling with duties including (but not limited to) hiring, regular supervision, performance evaluations, ongoing training, programming support, and management of intake and fulfillment of career education or CPD participation requests by delegating to appropriate staff (e.g. workshops, tabling)

2. Student Engagement
  • Conducts career coaching/counseling for students through one-on-one sessions, workshops, and other experiences in ways that are engaging, culturally conscious, and effective
  • Connects students to resources, industry, alumni, and experiential learning opportunities
  • Delivers experiences, trainings, workshops and events for students on career education topics including (but not limited to) resume building, cover letter writing, graduate school preparation, interview preparation and practice, job and internship search, and career exploration
  • Promotes student use and effective navigation of student career management portal, Handshake

2. E-Learning Instructional Design
  • Researches, evaluates, updates and develops e-learning content (tutorials, asynchronous Canvas modules, worksheets/guides, blended learning toolkits, audio and video content, website/blog text, case studies, etc.) which transform career education topics into engaging instruction

3. Professional Development
  • Ensures continuous enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with professional associations, peer institutions/programs, and industry networks
  • Updates position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teamwork:

a. Actively participates and contributes to weekly individual and/or team meetings
b. Supports major CPD event planning and day-of staffing
c. Becomes familiar with the services and resources of the office and represent CPD in various university programs at-large; assist in the marketing of programs and services
d. Performs other duties as assigned

2. Professional Development:

a. Ensures continuous enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with professional associations, peer institutions/programs, and industry networks
b. Updates position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year


Requirements:


Knowledge:
  • Awareness or capacity to learn and embrace social justice themes, anti-racist practices, and Catholic Intellectual Tradition
  • Awareness or capacity to learn and apply student development theory, career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles and career readiness strategies and techniques (resume building, cover letter writing, job searching, etc).
  • Awareness or capacity to learn needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.

Abilities and Skills:
  • Ability or capacity to learn and facilitate effective student employee engagement (including recruiting, onboarding, training, supervision, offer feedback/guidance, conduct performance evaluation/intervention, etc.)
  • Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
  • Ability to communicate with people from diverse cultures.
  • Ability or capacity to learn and implement program and project management skills.

Education:
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student in higher education/postsecondary/student affairs or related program.

Experience:
  • 1-2 years of prior experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Work Location: Both Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles) and Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles)

Start Date: August 01, 2023

Expected End Date: May 09, 2024
