The Residence Director (RD) is responsible for the programming and administrative management of a co-educational residential community ranging in size from 229 to 416 residents. This position has on-call responsibilities and answers to emergency situations.
Duties/Responsibilities
Supervise the Resident Assistant team to include the communication of expectations, administer accountability measures, and provide ongoing professional development
Assist the Assistant Director of Residence Life in the recruitment, selection, and training of student staff
Conduct meetings on an as-needed basis with community student leaders to guide necessary professional, social, and personal development
Advise a community council
Review cases of student misconduct and determine fair consequences at the discretion of the Dean of Students office.
Attend meetings as assigned including weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly departmental meetings.
Participate (as directed) in occupancy management for the area of responsibility including room assignment changes.
Manage an area programming budget. execute the procurement of necessary materials.
Facilitate the work of a departmental committee as assigned.
Organize and communicate charges for residents for lockouts, damages, and related needs.
Monitor area key check-in and check-out processes through regular key audits.
Document relevant interactions with students through case management software.
Review daily communication logs and follow up with concerns as needed.
Plan, support, implement and evaluate initiatives that contribute to the overall well-being of residents including educational, social, and developmental growth.
Execute the department community development model through the support of active and passive programming opportunities.
Communicate relevant information to residents.
Refer students to campus resources as needed.
Execute move-in procedures at the beginning of each semester and move-out procedures at the end of each semester.
Collaborate with maintenance and custodial staff to ensure appropriate upkeep of facility
Participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation with other Residence Directors
Respond to emergency/crisis situations in the area of responsibility during normal business hours and after hours as needed.
Collaborate with the Dean of Students to implement wellness checks.
Represent Housing & Residence Life by actively participating in appropriate campus-wide events and committees.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
1-3 years of full-time verifiable experience working at an institution of higher education
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with Google Suite is required
Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must possess a valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications:
Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration or a similar field is preferred
1-3 years experience in a traditional, on-campus, Housing and Residence Life department is desired
Experience with Adirondack Solutions Software is preferred
