Job Description

Assistant Director for Housing Operations

The Assistant Director for Housing Operations manages all elements of Boston College's summer housing operations including the scheduling, placement, and billing of all summer residents and groups including summer session students, alumni reunions, orientations, conferences and camps. Additionally, the Assistant Director manages the opening and closing of the residence halls at the start and end of each term session.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Housing Operations this position supervises a full-time assistant and four summer resident directors and is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising 120 summer student workers. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing a welcoming environment and high quality customer service experience for all residents and guests during the summer months, at times requiring creative problem solving and crisis response skills. In support of this goal, this position works with a wide range of university constituents (First Year Experience, Athletics, Dean of Students Office, Alumni, Dining Services, BCPD, Events Management, Facilities) to coordinate delivery of services and ensure that all policies are disseminated and followed by both summer staff and guests.

The Assistant Director for Housing Operations is responsible for managing the opening and closing of the residence halls; maintaining accurate summer bookings for summer students, conferences and camps; managing all information and processes including billing relating to early arrivals and housing extensions; and overseeing transitions at the beginning and end of each term session. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for establishing and reviewing summer housing guidelines and the management of all summer housing contracts.

The Assistant Director ensures that all student employees follow the Protection of Minors policy and guidelines, and that all background checks and Protection of Minors paperwork is completed by summer staff. The Assistant Director works with Event Management and Human Resources to confirm all internal and external clients utilizing summer housing meet the Protection of Minors guidelines.

The position is also responsible for day-to-day functional management of the StarRez housing database, specifically the early arrival, extension, and summer employment application modules. The Assistant Director works with technology staff to manage residence hall access for the summer months, and serves as a back-up for managing summer access cards and access plans utilizing CCure.

The Assistant Director for Housing Operations is responsible for the training of both professional staff and student workers with respect to a variety of systems, policies, and procedures that relate to the operational efficiency of hall opening and closing, delivery of summer services, use of departmental technologies, and the protection of minors policy,

The Assistant Director for Housing Operations conducts an annual profit and loss analysis at the end of the summer to ensure that all summer housing expenses are covered and periodically conducts comparative rate and service studies with other universities and colleges, reconciles summer operations revenues and expenses, and manages relationships with vendors for procurement and laundering of all summer linens. The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring that billing, charges, fees and approximately $3 million in annual revenue and expenses generated by approximately 13,000 summer residents and guests are accounted for accurately.

As a member of the housing operations team, the Assistant Director for Housing Operations will also be called upon to support a variety of departmental needs including but not limited to supporting short-term or one time housing needs related to conferences and events as well as short term relocation of students during the academic year and summer.

In order to create a more inclusive community within the Division of Student Affairs, each staff member is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $59,550 to $74,450; salary commensurate with relevant experience.



Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business, or comparable field; Master's in Higher Education, Business, or comparable field preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in university housing, conference services, related Student Affairs or higher education operational area, or hospitality management.
  • Comprehensive appreciation of the Jesuit and Catholic values and mission and the traditions and heritage of Boston College, and a willingness to express and abide by those values and mission.
  • Demonstrated success in student and professional staff supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Understanding of a comprehensive conference and summer camps program
  • Experience managing a summer conference and camps program serving multiple internal and external clients.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts with students, conference attendees, and university stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical background; experience with StarRez database preferred.
