Community Coordinator

This posting is for 2 – positions: EHRA non-faculty position #004319 and position #004321

This is a full-time Community Coordinator position that provides oversight and cares for 220 residential high school students.


ADMINISTRATIVE
Effectively manages administrative tasks which include: handling and filing paperwork, receiving and confirming Parental Permission Forms, Overnight Travel Permission Forms, alphabetizing sign-out cards, updating and monitoring curfew check sheets, etc. Works individually and on a team to create a fun, nurturing, and safe environment for students and colleagues. Oversees the general administration of the Connector Desk and Community Coordinator Office. Creates and implements new procedures that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of office operations that support High School Residence Life policies. Serves nightly and weekend primary/ back-up duty coverage in the high school area. Chairs or Co-Chair a high school life committee and delegate responsibilities evenly throughout the High School Life team. Helps promote the goals of Student Affairs by attending and participating in monthly Student Affairs staff meetings, divisional retreats and professional development. Helps promote the goals of High School Life by attending and participating in weekly team meetings, internal training and professional development opportunities. Assists the Director(s) for High School Life in developing short and long-range plans. Serves during Summer Intensives Programs working closely with the Director of Summer Residential Programs and other departmental staff preparing and carrying out the summer residential program. Promotes the professional development of yourself by taking classes, participating in professional development opportunities, and seeking out additional resources to support your growth. Maintains standards of conduct and practice consistent with the ACPA ethical guidelines and NASPA professional guidelines. Assists and refers students regarding roommate conflicts to Assistant Director for High School Life. Prepares end-of-the-year summary reports and maintains accurate records, soliciting feedback from students and reviewing input from students for future planning. Completes other duties and participates in other committee meetings as assigned by supervisor. The Community Coordinator position is a live-in position and is required to spend 80% of their evenings residing on campus; time away from campus happens when students are not in session or when time is approved by the supervisor.

SUPERVISION
Coordinates the recruitment, selection, training and continued development of Peer Leaders through spring and fall training, ongoing in-service sessions and other enrichment activities.
Maintains a high level of student contact, availability and visibility by spending time in the high school area and on designated hall. Supervises Peer Leaders on the residence hall and/or commuter Peer Leaders. Supervision includes on-going training, support, and weekly 1:1’s. Collaboratively plans and conducts floor meetings (as needed) for the purpose of input, support, accountability, and dissemination of information, training and evaluation of performance. Collaboratively plans and conducts monthly Community Meetings for the purpose of disseminating information, empowering student leaders of clubs and organizations to share upcoming information pertinent to students.
Sets and follows-up on Peer Leader programming requirements. Support and supervision of PL programming efforts, which should include feedback and evaluation. Provides direct supervision and support for students at High School Residence Life programs and events. Provides supervision and support to students at all school events, which may include participating in planning, direct supervision and participation in the event or program and striking the event/program. Provides supervision and support for all commuter students during the day, when in residence, and at school activities, programs and/or events.

ADVISING
Advises and counsel students, individually and in groups, about personal artistic and academic concerns. Serves as an advisor to 20-30 high school students (residential and/or commuter), keeping track of their status and progress academically, artistically, socially, emotionally and developmentally. Acts as liaison to facilitate communication between students, parents and faculty when needed. Completes narratives for Mid-term Progress Reports each term by the designated deadline to inform students, parents and faculty of residential progress. Refers information concerning students, issues and concerns to appropriate sources. Consults with students for their input on hall operations, programs and facilities. Assists students with informal counseling, formal mediation/conflict resolutions, problem solving, advising, etc.


PROGRAMMING/COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Provides staff leadership, coordination and general supervision of the residence hall programs in the high school area. Serves as a resource for residence hall programming and monthly community meetings. Participate in planned activities and support initiatives planned by the Peer Leaders, Student Leadership Board and other external departments.
Organizes and facilitates programs that are educational in nature and will assist with the overall growth and development of high school students. Encourages peer involvement among students in promoting compliance with school policies and creation of a safe and healthy community. Promotes a community environment that is nurturing; balancing the professional needs and personal needs with the focus on developmental need of the student. Submits Office Expense Forms for planned programs to supervisor in a timely manner for approval. Purchases approved items for all planned programs and events following State budget guidelines and submits all required documentation needed from programs/events (student signature sheet, original receipts, etc.

FACILITIES
Assumes responsibility for monitoring the condition of facilities and reports concerns to supervisors in a timely manner. Conducts and supervise operational functions such as reporting/investigating damages, inspecting the building for maintenance concerns and opening/closing the halls. Completes rounds to become aware of developing or potential problems. Coordinates and supervises all opening and closing of the high school area including fall opening, Fall Break, December closing, January opening, Spring Break closing/opening and end of the year closing. Participates in all duties during hall openings and closings. Ensures that all appropriate paperwork regarding room condition or room changes is complete and done within a timely manner for check-outs, withdrawals or internal room changes. Assess students for damages, lock-outs, lock changes, etc., and send proper documentation to the Assistant Directors for High School Life. Follow up with any maintenance or facility-related concerns that were reported in the Nightly Review and communicate updates to the team. Continue to follow up with updates until problems are resolved.

DISCIPLINE
Interprets and enforces all residence hall and school policies and regulations. Assists the Directors for High School Life by maintaining disciplinary records and making judicial referrals consistent with the policies and procedures of UNCSA and Residence Life and Housing Programs.
Maintains a pro-active and educational approach to discipline. Assists Peer Leaders with addressing community concerns such as, settling disputes and/or roommate disagreements, area vandalism, harassment, etc. Conducts inquires, investigations and follow-up as necessary. Work collaboratively with Campus Police during their investigations, if needed. Communicates disciplinary or behavior concerns to students, parents and supervisors in a timely manner. Provides students with educational conversations and feedback when opportunities arise that will assist them in their overall growth and development.

COMMUNICATION
Maintains a high level of communication with parents through one-on-one personal and phone contact. Informs the High School Residence Life Team of any changes in duty schedule/coverage in a timely manner. (All duty changes must first be approved by your supervisor or Director of Call.) Submits Nightly Reviews that contain adequate and timely information.
Communicates pertinent content in Nightly Reviews with other departments who are “need to know” individuals, such as High School Academic Programs, Art Schools, Wellness Centers, Campus Police, and parents/guardians. Communicates and collaboratively works with colleagues to enhance and improve the overall quality of the High School Residence Life program. Communicates and follow up with team members and the Housing Office all maintenance repairs and/or facilities related concerns via email. Communicates appropriately via email, phone, fax, and face-to-face interactions; which include timeliness of response and ability to follow through with requests. Asks for assistance and clarification (as needed) from supervisors or team members in a timely manner. Addresses problems and/or concerns directly with colleague(s) in order to promote a healthy collegial working environment and allow for professional growth.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a four-year college or university plus 1-2 years’ experience in educational administration, teaching, residence life, counseling, social work or psychology area, or in working with young people in some other capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred fields of study include: Student Personnel Services, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Education, or related field.
Preferred qualifications include: working with high school students in a residential or educational (K-12) setting
