Requirements

Associate Director for Student Conduct - Division of Student Affairs - Georgetown University

Georgetown's Office of Student Conduct supports our Catholic and Jesuit educational mission by enforcing regulations designed to promote an environment in which students can develop intellectually, morally, spiritually and socially while exercising a balance of partnership and autonomy within the campus community. The mission of the Office of Student Conduct is to promote concepts of fairness and due process in conduct settings.

Job Overview

The Associate Director for Student Conduct plays a vital role in fulfilling our fundamental mission to assist in students' educational development by promoting concepts of fairness and due process in judicial settings while striking a balance between community standards and individual behavior.

The Associate Director has oversight for the adjudication of all non-academic student conduct issues, as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct, for all students (undergraduate, graduate, and continuing studies) regardless of whether the alleged behavior occurred on University-owned/operated property or at any off-campus location. Such behavior includes but is not limited to disorderly conduct in the local surrounding communities, incivility towards a University official, failure to comply with a directive issued by a University official, theft, physical assault, illegal drug use/sale/distribution, damage/destruction of personal and/or University-owned property, harassment/bullying, stalking.

As well, they have oversight for the policies and procedures of the University's student disciplinary adjudication process as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct, including but not limited to Administrative Action meetings, recruitment, training and case assignment of undergraduate, graduate, continuing studies students, and faculty/staff Hearing Board and Appeals Committee members.

The Associate Director engages in follow-up meetings with Complainants/Respondents, personal advisors, parents, academic deans, co-curricular advisors; and collaborates closely with the Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators, the Title IX investigator, and any other official designated by the University as a Decision Maker for Title IX and sexual misconduct cases. They work with and across all undergraduate, graduate, and continuing studies campuses to coordinate adjudication procedures or other negotiated resolutions for sexual misconduct-related cases in order to be in compliance with federal regulations.

They have a critical role in fulfilling the University's commitment to our neighbors in the immediately surrounding communities of Foxhall, Burleith, and Georgetown by enforcing Code of Student Conduct policies regarding noise, social gatherings, parking restrictions, trash disposal, and general property maintenance. To that end, they engage in close collaboration with the Office of Neighborhood Life (ONL) by participating in off-campus student orientation sessions, weekly meetings with senior administrators focusing on off-campus student conduct, bi-weekly meetings with the Director of ONL regarding specific off-campus student conduct cases, and oral and written communication with off-campus students' parents, deans, co-curricular advisors, etc.

The Associate Director also leads integration of restorative practices into the Office of Student Conduct procedures and trainings; plays a central and collaborative role in convening and coordinating meetings of restorative practice facilitators, student leaders, and other interested members of the community; maintains relationships with national and local restorative practice resources, such as trainers, institutes, and networks; and assists in the broad integration of restorative practices into community responsibility practices for the student population.

They provide support to the Director with the Student Conduct Advisory Committee (SCAC). The Office of Student Conduct will convene and facilitate the committee, which includes faculty, professional staff, Director of Res Living (or senior staff), Faculty Senate Appointee, Student Affairs Rep appointed by VPSA, Ad Hoc as appointed by OSC, Grad Student (1), Undergrad Student from each class (total of 4). VPSA can appoint GUSA President (or President's designee).

Additionally, they serve a critical role in addressing COVID-19 related non-compliance incidents referred to the Office by the University's public health care navigation team, including but not limited to maintaining COVID-19 case tracker for updating senior administrators, and administration of the COVID-19 expedited adjudication process.

The Associate Director has oversight for office communication/correspondence/disciplinary records, including but not limited to daily emails sent to/by studentconduct@georgetown.edu, academic dean and parent notifications regarding adjudication outcomes, requests for student disciplinary clearance forms, background investigator requests, disciplinary records requests from OGE, deans, OSE, President's office.

They also handle other Office of Student Conduct related matters as needed, and provide leadership for the office during the Director's absence.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Director of the Office of Student Conduct, the Associate Director for Student Conduct supervises student employees and works in close collaboration with campus partners in the Office of Off Campus Student Life, Department of Residential Living, Department of Health Education Services, Office of Student Outreach and Support, Office of Social Justice, Department of Athletics, Office of University Counsel, IDEAA/Title IX, GU Police Department (GUPD) and DC Metropolitan Police, Academic Deans' Offices, Office of Global Education, Undergraduate and Graduate Student Government Associations, Undergraduate Student Advocacy Office (SAO), and faculty and student members of the judicial hearing board and appeals committee.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education or related field or a J.D. degree
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in student judicial services in a college or university setting with demonstrated success as a professional in an administrative student conduct process or closely related area.
  • Familiarity with current Title IX obligations
