University Housing at Coastal Carolina University seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Community Coordinator reporting to an Assistant Director for Resident Success. This is a full time, live-in professional staff position. University Housing has experienced exciting and rapid growth over recent years. University Housing is home to more than 4600 students.
The Community Coordinator will serve as an entry-level professional working directly with University Housing’s Resident Success Team to foster a student environment that fulfills the goals and mission of University Housing. Each Community Coordinator will coordinate and administer all aspects of a resident success program in their assigned area housing up to 600 residents. Community Coordinators select, train, supervise, and evaluate up to twelve paraprofessional Resident Advisers.
Duties, include, but are not limited to: developing a sense of community amongst residents; managing facilities; overseeing administrative processes; advising a community council; facilitating the room change process; serving as a student conduct hearing officer; and mentoring and nurturing students in their academic and personal development through engagement, advising, and counseling. There may also be opportunities to participate in and lead committees, teach the FYE course (UNIV 110), and advise student organizations. The Community Coordinator also serves in a 24/7 administrator on-call and support staff rotations with a minimum response time expectation and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: A master’s degree and experience in student services programs and response to student behavioral issues is required. Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable three (3) year driving record. Student organization advising, adjudicating student conduct cases, and co-curricular programming based on student development theory experience is preferred. Prior direct supervision of student para-professional staff and professional experience in a university or college student housing setting, including live-in/live-on duties are also preferred.
Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university. Able to attend overnight conferences and drive state vehicles transporting staff and students for work functions. Physically able to walk through communities, including up/downstairs in communities without elevators. Considered “essential personnel” and required to participate in campus-wide emergencies such as weather and structural emergencies.
