POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the Assistant Vice President (aVP) of Student Affairs will provide leadership for student life culture that promotes civility, celebrates diversity, and encourages an inclusive campus climate. The Assistant Vice President is responsible for assisting the Vice President in planning, implementing and evaluating the student development and retention programs and services managed by the Division of Student Affairs, and recommending the development and implementation of new programs and services that support the College???s strategic plan. Areas of oversight include Health Services, Counseling, Student Disability Services, Gender Resources, Student Life and Leadership Development, Veterans Affairs, Community Standards, and International Student and Scholar Services. The Assistant Vice President will also maintain College level oversight of Student Housing/The Towers, as well as the Child Development Center.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the effective operation of the Student Affairs areas to deliver services to students to achieve success
  • Providing leadership and supervision for program coordination, strategic planning, and student development for areas, including: and special population programs, as appropriate
  • Providing managerial leadership and supervision to direct reports and their respective staff to ensure that a cohesive and collaborative team effort is applied to all student affairs and college services
  • Creating vision and leadership for the transition of freshmen and transfer students to CCNY, through orientation and other related activities
  • Collaborating with Academic Affairs on the development of a comprehensive learning environment that fosters the intellectual, social, professional, and personal development of a diverse student population
  • Overseeing the development, administration and coordination of Student Affairs policies, programs and procedures related to retention, accountability, student behavior, and emergency protocols
  • Assisting the Vice President in providing leadership and oversight in implementing continuous improvement efforts, formulating Division goals and objectives, and evaluating the Division???s targets and goals and Performance Management Process in support of the College and CUNY goals/targets
  • Promoting excellence, creativity, leadership, cooperation/teamwork and accountability throughout the Student Affairs Division
  • Leveraging technology to insure uniform delivery of foundational information to all Students
  • Developing performance metrics for all professional student development efforts
  • Contributing to the overall success of the Division of Student Affairs by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Master???s degree in a relevant discipline, eight years of progressive experience in higher education and an outstanding record accomplishment.

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree strongly preferred; eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education and student affairs administration preferred
  • Proven success with student retention strategies and initiatives desired
  • Demonstrated experience with collaborative projects between student affairs and academic programs
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and assessment of learning outcomes
  • Candidates should also have experience working in an urban academic institution with students from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills required; ability to develop and maintain collaborations involving students, parents, staff, faculty, administration and the community are essential
  • Demonstrate excellent listening and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of current trends and practices in student services and the ability to create and implement ???cutting edge??? progressive initiatives to organize and implement change
  • Exhibit the flexibility to manage multiple complex roles which require a broad base of knowledge
  • Ability to articulate the philosophy of Student Affairs and its contribution to student development
  • Skills to maintain a fair and decisive leadership style with the ability to make

VACCINE REQUIREMENT:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Please note: Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary: $145,000-$165,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out
