The Academic Advising Manager will report to the Academic Advising Director. The Academic Advising Manager will be instrumental in the creation, leadership, implementation and assessment of advising programs and approaches designed to increase student retention, persistence and success. The Academic Advising Manager is the point of contact for incoming and current transfer students and will facilitate the onboarding process related to student registration. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Advising Manager will be responsible for the following duties:
Conduct and oversee research and implementation of high impact practices for academic support and advising programs to increase student engagement, learning, retention and college completion. More specifically within the incoming and current transfer student population.
Participate in the management and implementation of early alerts, predictive analytics, and other opportunities for high impact, proactive engagement with student milestones.
Work with the Academic Advising Director to leverage strategic partnerships, particularly among, but not exclusive to, Admissions, Learning Centers, Pre-Professional Offices, Counseling and Wellness, Financial Aid, Career Development Services and other academic units.
Develop and manage data queries and reports and analyze outcome information. Use technologies such as CRM, social media, interactive web-based platforms, caseload management tools, scheduling software, Zoom and video to bring advising to scale.
Supervise assistant director responsible for caseload assignments, programming and workshops and advise a caseload of students.
Train and develop staff on high impact practices such as proactive and intrusive advising, developing growth mindset and resilience in students, and working with transfer students.
Write program proposals, requests for funding, program analyses and reports, and work with Director in seeking and writing grants where appropriate.
In collaboration with Academic Advising Director, continually assess ongoing advising programs using direct and indirect, quantitative and qualitative methods- particularly new initiatives aimed at retention and completion for transfer students.
Serves on college wide committees and task forces at the request of the Director.
Actively promotes accessibility and visibility of advising through public programs and online presence. Academic Advisement staff are expected to have staff photo and biography on website, and engage in Zoom advising, chat rooms, social media, videos, and online tutorials.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field strongly preferred. College managerial experience and ability to effectively interact with a diverse faculty, staff and student population while representing the Office of Advising as well as the Division of Student Affairs to internal and external constituents. Strong writing and oral presentation skills are necessary. Experience working with transfer students and knowledge of CUNY and Hunter College, its requirements and regulations, preferred. Proven ability to motivate faculty and staff in the Academic Advisement plan is a plus.
