The Director of Academic & Collaborative Technologies provides leadership and guidance in academic and collaborative technologies, technology platform adoption and training, accessible technologies, multimedia production, and learning spaces. The Director works with campus stakeholders on high-profile campus-wide projects and initiatives. This position provides leadership, direction, and support at the campus-level and serves on committees on behalf of IT and the campus at the University (UW) level. This position leads and supervises staff.  
 
This position is a member of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Information Technology’s leadership team and contributes to UW Bothell and the University of Washington via: 1) enhancing academic and collaborative technologies across campus; 2) improving the team’s work practices to deliver at scale; 3) engage campus stakeholders to enable the mission (via technology); 4) represent IT and UW Bothell on UW Seattle committees.   

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

Oversee the following portfolio: adoption, training, and support of academic and collaborative technologies; open lab; digital accessibility; media production & facilities

•Encourage the exploration of innovative new ways to incorporate technology in academic settings
•Oversee hybrid learning space strategy and design
•Monitor, evaluate, and improve the customer experience with academic and collaborative technologies and learning spaces
•Consult and collaborate with stakeholders to promote sustainable, accessible, and effective services and technologies that improve the student experience in ways that promote diversity and inclusion, achieve learning outcomes, and improve course/program completion
•Keep abreast of the University of Washington portfolio of technologies; promote the use of standard and supported technologies over one-off solutions
•Manage the development and presentation of effective and timely workshops and programming on topics of high interest and utility for faculty, staff, and students.
•Work closely with academic and student support units to develop and implement engaging and technologically-rich experiences
•Understand the use and application of academic and collaborative technologies across campus; collaborate with the Director of Strategic Ops to evaluate contracts, compliance, vendors, and operationalizing products and services
•Collaborate with colleagues across UW and nationally on domain-related issues and challenges
•Work closely with other members of the CIO’s leadership team on shared initiatives and projects
•Participate in the planning and development of IT strategy, roadmaps, and priorities for the campus, with a lead role in those touching on academic technologies, learning spaces, and hybrid collaboration
•Lead and participate in campus and university projects, committees, task forces, and other groups as directed by the AVC for IT

IT Management

•Direct services within the Academic Technology unit that have campus impact
•Lead, organize, and positively influence the team; promote an environment that is attractive to employees and that facilitates the recruitment and retention of staff. This includes, but is not limited to, staff development, recognition, motivation, and communication
•Recruit, hire, train, coach, motivate, and manage performance of permanent, temporary, and contract staff
•Build and champion a customer-focused culture that is based on equity and inclusion
•Collaborate with the AVC for IT and other IT leaders on annual budgets, reports, narratives, and other documents
•Regularly communicate status of projects, activities, and services to team members, IT leadership, partners, and stakeholders
•Define and report Performance Metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Unit-Specific

•Continue upgrading knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to keep abreast of academic and collaborative technologies, emerging technologies, University and state regulation/policy changes, faculty and program needs, and campus student success initiatives
•Build relationships and collaborate with colleagues across the campus and the University of Washington; find ways to leverage existing services, products, and tools to benefit campus constituents
Support and demonstrate UW Bothell’s Collaboration Principles 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

•Master's Degree in Education, Technology, Business, or related field;
•3+ years of related experience

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

•2+ years managing staff
•Proven ability to influence up and across organizationally
•Proven capabilities in decision-making, leading change, and developing strategy
•Proven ability to lead strategy, planning, budgeting, and service improvements across a similar portfolio
•Demonstrated skill utilizing strong interpersonal skills to achieve project, service, and team success. This may include diplomacy, influence, emotional intelligence, negotiation, collaboration, active listening, and communication.
•Ability to build and maintain trust and positive relationships with campus leadership, IT colleagues, team members, faculty, staff, and students
•Ability to navigate complex and distributed organizations and decision-making bodies with calm and friendly tenacity.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

•As a member of the IT Leadership Team, this position is expected to respond during times of crisis and must be able to regularly field immediate questions from the campus community related to urgent issues.
