Description of Work:


Advise current and prospective students in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, initially focusing on undergraduate emerging media arts, implementing knowledge of policies, curriculum, and other programs across campus.

Use interpersonal communication and relational skills to engage in collaborative advising conversations with students and share developmentally appropriate advice in regard to academic /course planning, extracurricular involvement/exploration, and professional preparation. Apply inclusive advising strategies with students based on understanding of how cultural context, differences, and institutional/social barriers may influence the student experience. Assist students in understanding academic standards and major/minor/emphasis selections. Encourage overall well-being and adjustment to the university as well as exploration of interests as they relate to areas of study. Serve as a referral agent to appropriate resources to meet the diverse needs of students. Develop and deliver presentations to various-sized audiences, which may include students, parents, staff and/or faculty. Participate in recruitment and retention efforts, including Red Letter Days, campus visits, and New Student Enrollment. Collaborate with other campus offices to engage in best practices and to develop programming to support student retention and success.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years demonstrated experience working with students in 1:1 or group advising settings; Master's degree may substitute for 2 years of experience. Ability to learn and stay current on complex academic requirements, policies and procedures. Demonstrated competency with common office software programs and ability to use a variety of technology platforms. Strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in order to apply inclusive advising strategies. Evidence of working in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and changing needs. Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in student affairs, education, administration, counseling, or related field. Background in the arts and/or technology desirable. Academic advising experience helpful. Prior use of student information technology and platforms preferred. Experience with college students helpful. Experience providing academic and/or social support for first-generation, low-income, and/or minority college students. Understanding of student records, admissions, retention, and graduation requirements. Experience using advising software programs and/or student information systems. Ability to develop and deliver programs and presentations.

Posted Salary: $43,000/yr. minimum
