Reporting to the Managing Director for Residential Well-being and Inclusion and an Assistant Director in an ExperienceVT area, the Coordinator for ExperienceVT champions a welcoming, inclusive, and holistic experience for residential students that prioritizes student engagement and success. With a focus on the Aspirations for Student Learning and the Principles of Community, the Coordinator for ExperienceVT connects students to relationships and campus involvement to ensure that each student creates an intentional, customized experience at Virginia Tech.
With the support of the ExperienceVT in Residential Well-being team, consisting of the ExperienceVT Content Expert and other Coordinators for ExperienceVT, The Coordinator is responsible for fostering student engagement through the creation of a data-driven, inclusive, and team-based community engagement plan to support individual residential students and the entire residential community. Through this plan, the Coordinator brings together students, events, organizations, living-learning programs, mentoring, and programs that supports students’ well-being and enables every student by to find their path to meaningful involvement by understanding their strengths, clarifying their purpose, creating meaningful goals, and taking intentional action.
The Coordinator for ExperienceVT serves on a strong multidisciplinary team of colleagues from across Student Affairs, which is convened regularly by the Managing Director for Residential Well-being and Inclusion to cultivate a rich experiential foundation for students’ success that offers a deep sense of community and belonging for every student. These colleagues include other Coordinators for ExperienceVT, a Coordinator for Well-being, a Coordinator for Case Management and Administration, and an embedded counselor from Cook Counseling. Working with this team and others, the Coordinator fosters a cohesive, holistic, and supportive residential experience. In addition, the Coordinator builds relationships with campus partners and identifies opportunities to bring programs, activities, and resources into the residential community, as well as opportunities to take residential students to to experiences outside the residence hall. The Coordinator also provides student support through mentoring, referral to resources, incident response, on-call duties, and other duties, as assigned.
In addition, the Coordinator for ExperienceVT leads a team of approximately 15-25 Residential Well-being Student Leaders for ExperienceVT who live in the residence halls and ensure that every student is engaged at the optimal level. The Coordinator engages regularly with these student leaders through training and supervision to ensure that residential students receive high-level programming, connection to resources, and exemplary service. In addition, the Coordinator mentors Student Leaders to identify personal and professional growth opportunities and resources to support their individual well-being and success.
About Residential Well-being:
At Virginia Tech, Residential Well-being refers to a collaborative vision & effort by partners across the Division of Student Affairs, such as Hokie Wellness, the Dean of Students office, Experience VT, and the Chief Inclusion & Belonging Officer. The Residential Well-being office operates as a matrix organization, where coordinators have the opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team that serves a district of approximately 2000 students, as well as belonging to a team of fellow coordinators from other districts who work with an expert leader from the coordinating department.
To foster and further thinking differently about the residential experience, Residential Well-being invites professionals from a variety of backgrounds and years of experience to consider joining our team. This position may be offered as a live-on or live-off position. While RWB has a special focus on work-life balance for team members, the nature of supporting residential students means that this position does include some evening and weekend work.
Required Qualifications: . Bachelor’s degree in a related field. • Demonstrate a deep commitment to student success with a passion for designing student experiences and an unrelenting commitment to student success, learning, and inclusion. • Ability to understand student-development theory • Team-oriented and demonstrate adaptability, initiative, and the ability to respond effectively to crises, including after hours. • Demonstrate vision and creativity in program design and promotion, as well as strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. • Demonstrate a growth mindset and embrace change as an opportunity for creativity, learning, and improvement. • Diverse populations of students in a complex, institutional setting and demonstrate a desire to promote diversity and inclusion and foster a safe, welcoming environment for students.
Preferred Qualifications:
. Master’s degree in Higher Education or a relevant field • Experience with campus-wide engagement and strategic planning • Creativity in identifying, brainstorming, implementing, and evaluating, unmet needs of underserved and underrepresented communities.
