Reporting to the Managing Director for Residential Well-being and Inclusion and the Dean of Students Office, the Coordinator for Case Management and Administration champions a welcoming, inclusive, and holistic experience for residential students that prioritizes student well-being and success.

With a focus on the Aspirations for Student Learning and the Principles of Community, the Coordinator for Case Management and Administration works closely with the Managing Director, Dean’s team, Housing Services, Student Conduct, and other Residential Well-being and university partners to support coordinated care and advocacy for students facing obstacles in their lives.

The Coordinator is responsible for fostering student well-being through the creation of a data-driven, inclusive, and team-based case-management plan to support individual students and the entire residential community. Through this plan, the Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for identifying students who need support, including mental-health issues, relationship conflicts, social adjustment, financial needs, academic challenges, and family concerns, among others. In addition, the Coordinator triages issues; provides referrals; coordinates and communicates with partners; ensures follow-up; and maintains thorough, accurate, and timely documentation. The Coordinator also works closely with Care Team, the Bias Incident Response Team, Student Conduct, and Title IX to coordinate care and elevate issues and concerns, as needed.

The Coordinator for Case Management and Administration serves on a strong interdisciplinary team of colleagues from across Student Affairs, which is convened regularly by the Managing Director for Residential Well-being and Inclusion to cultivate a rich experiential foundation for students’ success that offers a deep sense of community and belonging for every student. These colleagues include other Coordinators for Case Management and Administration, a Coordinator for ExperienceVT, a Coordinator for Well-being, and an embedded counselor from Cook Counseling. Working with this team and others, the Coordinator fosters a cohesive, holistic, and supportive residential experience.

The Coordinator also provides student support through mentoring, referral to resources, incident response, on-call duties, and other duties, as assigned.

The Coordinator for Case Management and Administration also supports administrative functions for Housing Services that support well-being in the residential environment. These include facilitating room changes, providing oversight for student arrivals and departures, monitoring environmental health and safety, etc.

About Residential Well-being:

At Virginia Tech, Residential Well-being refers to a collaborative vision & effort by partners across the Division of Student Affairs, such as Hokie Wellness, the Dean of Students office, Experience VT, and the Chief Inclusion & Belonging Officer. The Residential Well-being office operates as a matrix organization, where coordinators have the opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team that serves a district of approximately 2000 students, as well as belonging to a team of fellow coordinators from other districts who work with an expert leader from the coordinating department.

To foster and further thinking differently about the residential experience, Residential Well-being invites professionals from a variety of backgrounds and years of experience to consider joining our team. This position may be offered as a live-on or live-off position. While RWB has a special focus on work-life balance for team members, the nature of supporting residential students means that this position does include some evening and weekend work.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Demonstrate a deep commitment to inclusive and diverse practices that recognize intersectionality and multiple identities in support of student well-being and development.
• Experience advising and/or providing advocacy for students in a higher education environment and managing confidential and sensitive information with a high level of discretion is essential.
• Demonstrate a positive outlook and the ability to work through obstacles, solve problems, maintain calm, and think outside the box in situations with a high degree of ambiguity.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures through a student-centered lens and to identify and address institutional barriers.
• Team-oriented and demonstrate adaptability, initiative, and the ability to respond effectively to crises, including after hours.
• Demonstrate a high degree of curiosity, optimism, and generosity when working with students and developing relationships with campus partners.
• Well-organized and demonstrate the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrate a growth mindset and embrace change as an opportunity for creativity, learning, and improvement.
• Experience working with diverse populations of students in a complex, institutional setting and demonstrate a desire to promote diversity and inclusion and foster a safe, welcoming environment for students.
