Job Summary/Basic Function:

This Associate Director leads the area of Student Activities, including working with Clubs & Organizations and Fraternity & Sorority Life. The Associate Director works with students and student groups to ensure success of student events, initiatives, and the development of the leadership skills of members. This position serves as the advisor to the campus programming board (MOB), the yearbook (Microcosm), the student media council (Media Board), and other groups as needed. The Associate Director is a primary point person for management of EngageD and works with campus partners on the approval process for events (including events with alcohol). This position coordinates many large-scale events and programs including, but not limited to, the Activities Fair. The incumbent creates a vision for Student Activities within a liberal arts setting that intentionally supports an engaging academic and intellectual environment for students beyond the classroom walls. They should create and facilitate distinctive conditions and programs throughout the campus that intentionally foster learning, promote inclusion and self-governance, and seek engagement from its members. The Associate Director is a member of the Campus Life team and reports to the Executive Director of Campus Life.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct advising and support of student organizations and clubs including, but not limited to, the Microcosm, the Media Board, and MOB. Assist in advising, providing leadership development and skill building opportunities, and staff support to student clubs, organization, and events, including but not limited to assistance with on booking, hosting, logistics and contract negotiations for major entertainment performances, weekly programming and special events such as concerts, lectures, comedians, dances, and festivals.
  • Create, coordinate, and execute a comprehensive leadership experience for student organization/club leaders and advisors, which may focus on topics such as successful & sustainable event planning, leadership transition, effective management, creating inclusive organizations, etc. Support the overarching programmatic goal of leadership development through the Social Change Model by developing and implementing new programs and executing existing opportunities for clubs and organizations. Provides leadership training and support to all student organizations, groups, and workers as requested.
  • Develops/implements programs for fraternity and sorority members including, but not limited to, Officer and President Roundtables. Works to ensure the smooth transition of leadership with the Panhellenic Council, the Inter-Fraternity Council, and the Multicultural Greek Council. Assists with chapter leadership development which may include attendance at regional/national conferences/trainings; Develop and execute regular meetings and workshops for campus faculty, staff, and alumni advisors; Advise and provide support to the Fraternity and Sorority scholarship and leadership honor societies.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the campus for the EngageD (Anthology + Blackboard Engage) platform and work collaboratively with partners on the event approval process (including events with alcohol).
  • Ensure formalized assessment of Student Activities. Use data in planning and development for continuous improvement of programs and services.
  • Spearhead the hazing task force and coordinate with the faculty, staff, and students who serve on it and its subcommittees. Collaborate with others on campus to review the policies for events with alcohol and student life publicity regularly.
  • Coordinate the Holland Union Building (HUB) Desk . Hire, train, manage, and evaluate HUB desk attendants. In collaboration with Marketing & Communications, maintain signage in the HUB including bulletin boards, directional signage, and other information in coordinate with the Student Life positing policy.
  • Implement response to crisis within residential communities in collaboration with appropriate college partners. Fulfill 24/7 on-call responsibilities in rotation with Campus Life staff members for the residential campus which includes being available at all hours for crisis intervention and support, and acting as the administrator on call.

Master's degree – Higher Education, Student Affairs, or equivalent

**Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 to 8 years of professional event planning and business management experience can successfully prepare a candidate for advising student organizations and organizing events and substitute for a Master's Degree.

3-5 Years Work Experience
