The Division of Student Success is excited to be hiring for multiple assistant director roles within the Offices of Career Connections Center (CCC), Identity, Student Engagement, and Access (ISEA), Residential Life and Housing (RLH), Academic Support, and Student Leadership and Programming (SLP). These roles will work in partnership to uplift the mission of the division, providing holistic, intentional, and transformative experiences and support to students at Clark University.

The Assistant Director of Student Leadership & Programming is a student-centered, collaborative, and intentional leadership educator and advisor who supports a vibrant and inclusive campus community through leadership development, engaging student clubs, student events, late night and weekend programming, and orientation,

Reporting to the Director of Student Leadership & Programming (SLP), the Assistant Director develops and implements a comprehensive leadership development program for students, including coordinating the Emerging Leaders Institutes, leadership retreats, club leader training and collaboration with other departments to ensure leadership competency development through the student leader selection and training process.

The Assistant Director manages and coordinates student organizational support and policy development, including supporting student engagement through the Event Management System (EMS) and the Clark Engage platform, and providing students' guidance in program planning, budget management, and logistics. 

A key member of the SLP team, the Assistant Director supports campus-wide onboarding and offboarding, and signature programming initiatives such as Orientation, the Involvement Fair, Welcome Week, Spree Day, and commencement.  The Assistant Director will serve as an active member of the SLP, engagement team, and student success staff, participate in university-wide committees to promote student engagement and leadership development through programs, presentations, and advising support.

 

Leadership Development

  • Develop and implement leadership development programs in line with inclusive leadership development theories and Engagement leadership competencies, including Emerging Leaders Institute, Leadership Workshops, and the Identity Leadership Retreat in partnership with ISEA.
  • Coordinate the student leader's selection, training, and evaluation process in collaboration with other Student Success areas, including Residential Life & Housing, Identity, Student Engagement, and Access, and Orientation and Navigator.  Create timelines, information session content, applications, interview processes, combined selection meetings, and position descriptions and evaluation documents. 
  • Facilitate trainings for elected and selected student leaders, including in-services for newly elected student leader positions, development of a student leader curriculum, and coordination of the inclusion summer reading series for student leadership positions
  • Assess student leader learning outcomes and measure student efficacy, skill development, and knowledge acquisition.  Support student ongoing personal reflection and leadership competency development
  • Coordinate with campus partners, including the Career Connections Center and Alumni & Friends in supporting students in leveraging student experiences for beyond Clark

Student Organization Development

  • Provide support to 130 clubs and organizations, their student leaders and advisors, including supporting club training and resource materials, attending meetings and events, engagement with advisors, and connections with campus partners
  • Develop club leader management and leadership programs and workshops to support student organization leaders and advisors on topics such as: Clark Engage, managing space, running effective meetings, marketing, inclusion, transition, money management, programing, risk management and adhering to policies.
  • Oversee the Club registration process for clubs and organizations, including review of charters, transition materials, and founding documents
  • Review and update the Club Guidebook, financial manual, and training documents for students each year in collaboration with campus partners and General Counsel.
  • Build relationships with all student leaders and student clubs, with emphasis on performance organizations
  • Engage and advise with student organizations and leaders regarding event planning, organization management, budgeting, culturally relevant leadership and identity development
  • Support key student clubs and programming events as assigned, including trainings, events, and club management and finances
  • Serve as a resource and support for all students engaging with SLP

Student Programming & Events

  • Manage the fall and spring involvement fair for student organizations and departments during the first weeks of classes
  • Supervise the Campus Ambassadors, including selection, training, and evaluation to have graduate student coverage and resources for students and programming support throughout the academic year
  • Support student transition programming, including first six weeks weekend programming, ongoing events on the nights and weekends, and communication of the robust programming calendar
  • Lead and advise at least one large campus tradition, such has Halloweekend, International gala, Spree Day or Senior Week
  • Ensure events and activities for all student populations, including commuter and off-campus students

Collaboration

  • Provides operations-related information to campus partners that supports the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of students.
  • Manage projects and communications for SLP, and follows-up appropriately.
  • Consult, support, and collaborate with other campus colleagues and campus stakeholders, such as academic departments, facilities, and dining services, to provide support to students in a timely manner.
  • Serve on various University committees to support student engagement, event planning and events
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate for staffing late night/weekend events as needed
  • Support key initiatives and experiences within the University, such as opening weekend, commencement, family weekend, traditional events, etc. 
  • Serve as a responsible committee representative as requested
  • Promote efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and ensure that it is consistent with the engagement team and student success's mission and values
  • Remain cognizant of the University's mission and identity, the constant promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the importance of student voices

 



Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student organization advising and student event planning processes, systems and structures
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and experience in working with diverse communities of college students
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of student development theory, identity development theory, high impact practices, and the value of student organizations as an experiential learning process.
  • Experience in managing and coordinating large-scale events, supporting student clubs and organizations
  • Possess strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to review and analyze complex information.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills; ability to exercise sound judgment and make sound decisions; ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and effectively; work well under pressure.
  • Awareness of best practices and current trends in the fields of student activities and leadership development.
  • Comfort with technology including MS Office, Campus Labs Engage, EMS Event Management System, and social media.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, serve as a team player, and support student affairs and student engagement
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills, and be adaptable.                                  

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Development, Student Personnel or related field strongly preferred.
  • Two to four years of relevant experience in student affairs and higher education administration, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Understanding and experience in leadership development and training
  • Demonstrated understanding of, appreciation of, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
