Instructional Designer for Inclusivity and Academic Success (71101)
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Description: The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Pratt Institute supports the development of teaching and learning across all schools at Pratt, in face-to-face, online, and hybrid classroom and studio settings. The CTL aims to advance, support, and sustain a strong and inclusive culture of teaching and learning and helps to ensure that we prepare instructors to serve all our students and achieve equitable outcomes for all.
The Center for Teaching and Learning seeks a full-time Instructional Designer for Inclusivity and Academic Success to support faculty development around equitable teaching across the Institute. This person will work through the lens of inclusivity to support faculty awareness, teaching practices, and classroom management that ultimately supports student academic success. We understand academic success as support of student retention, resilience, motivation, and engagement through inclusive pedagogical practices, accommodations, and other considerations for all learners. This position will liaise between the CTL, the Student Success Team, the Learning/Access Center (L/AC), the Office of International Student Affairs (OIA), Higher Education Opportunities Program (HEOP) and Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to collaborate on events, training opportunities, faculty supports, and conversations around inclusive instructional strategies for all students. Using the data collected by Institutional Research, other data points, and department-specific trends, this person will be able to identify specific areas of need across the Institute. This person will provide guidance to faculty in incorporating other academic resources, such as the Writing Center, the Libraries, and more into their courses to ensure that students are supported holistically in their studies. This position will also help assemble and curate appropriate resources on inclusive best teaching practices in art, design, and architecture disciplines. The Instructional Designer for Inclusivity and Academic Success will use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles for syllabus development, assignment-design, inclusive assessment and grading practices, online and hybrid course design and management, and communication strategies to include all learning styles. As part of the CTL team, the Instructional Designer for Inclusivity and Academic Success will also provide general assistance to the CTL, its day-to-day operations, planning, training and support of all activities of the Center. This position also includes administrative responsibilities, such as online and in person event organization, scheduling and promoting events, and managing the CTL calendar.
The Instructional Designer for Inclusivity and Academic Success reports to the CTL Director.
