The Center for Ecosystem Sentinels has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time Temporary Program Coordinator.

The Center for Ecosystem Sentinels, housed in the University of Washington’s Department of
Biology, generates and applies information on how global changes are impacting threatened wildlife species to educate scientists, the public and policy makers. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the Center runs smoothly as a cohesive institute to meet its joint mission of a) research, b) education, and c) conservation. The Center consists of two labs (Abrahms and Boersma) currently, but more will join as it grows. The manager will support the working and coordination of them all.

This position will enable research and operations within the Center for Ecosystem Sentinels to continue at full capacity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROJECT MANAGEMENT (85%)
Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
Keeping a calendar of tasks and ensuring that they are completed in a timely manner;
Coordinating Center board meetings and other communications with board members;
Administering and coordinating internal Center communication/collaboration tools, e.g. Slack,
Microsoft Teams, Zoom, google docs;
Coordinating joint Center & individual (Abrahms and Boersma) lab meetings;
Recruiting and managing the Center’s affiliate researchers;
Approving & managing employee & volunteer scheduling and time accounting;
Coordinating fieldwork including travel arrangements and obtaining permits;
Writing grant and gift applications, and contributing to activities related to grant proposal
development and submission (e.g. development of conflict-of-interest lists; filling out and
uploading grant-related forms);
Tracking budget spending;
Writing reports (e.g. to permitting governments, funders);
Maintaining donor list and coordinating donor outreach;
Managing and organizing files (documents, media, etc.);
Purchasing and ordering supplies;
Submitting reimbursements;
Upkeep of facilities and managing laboratory safety / EHSO compliance including ensuring
compliance of lab members with regulations;
Writing and maintaining health & safety protocols;
Renewing and updating IACUC protocols;
Maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for research;
Maintaining inventories of equipment and supplies.

UNDERGRADUATE SUPERVISION (5%)
Undergraduate supervision activities include hiring undergraduates and volunteers;
Instructing undergraduates and volunteers in lab protocols;
Scheduling undergraduate student time in the lab;
Keeping track of undergraduate contact information and schedules;
Working with the Senior Computer Specialist and academic personnel to ensure that
undergraduates and volunteers have meaningful work that moves the Center forward and
contributes to the education and growth of the undergraduates and volunteers.

OUTREACH (10%)
One of the ways the Center accomplishes its mission of conservation is through public outreach.
This position should help to increase the visibility of the Center. Outreach activities include:
Being the initial point-of-contact for public queries;

Managing the Center newsletter and social media;
Managing content on the Center’s Wordpress website;
Coordinating public talks, talks to school classes, etc.;
Publicizing scientific papers (i.e., media outreach);
Coordinating lay publications (pamphlets, booklets, books);
Organizing Center events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Position Minimum Education Required - Bachelor's degree
Position Minimum Years of Experience Required - 1 year

Position Minimum Skills Required:
Relevant Skills
The most important skills are organization, and good written and verbal communication. A
successful applicant will also have a passion for conservation and willingness to learn.
Technical Skills
Basic Windows computer skills, proficiency with email, an understanding of Windows file
organization, and basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following skills will be utilized in this position but are not required to apply:
Comfort with both PC and Mac operating systems;
Experience with the Google Suite (Google Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive management);
Experience with Microsoft Teams and/or Slack;
Familiarity with Workday, Mailman listservs, and/or PurchasePath;
Familiarity with Mailchimp (or another email blast provider), Wordpress (or similar web content
management service), Dropbox;
Experience with Zoom, Powerpoint, and arranging meetings;
Experience handling data or using databases (Access, SQL Server);
An understanding of basic cybersecurity principles;
Experience supervising part-time/student employees;
Experience working within a large system such as a university;
Spanish language skills or ability to effectively utilize online translators
