Departmental Culture:

The office culture can be summed up in four words: hard-working, funny, and awkward, but in a fun way, we swear!!! We believe in giving everything our best, but we also believe that laughing is an essential component in self-care as well as team building. Due to this belief, there is a healthy amount of joking and awkward long pauses when no one gets the Director’s jokes.

About WSU:

Washington State University is a four-year, division one, land-grant research institution located within the beautiful Palouse region in the small college town of Pullman, Washington. Our small college town feel coupled with our large school experience, generates intensely passionate fans who help create an enduring sense of legacy and tradition. Our alumni stay incredibly involved with our institution and contribute to an indescribable sense of school pride.

Pullman is just eight miles from Moscow, Idaho which hosts the University of Idaho. Together these two small towns and two big universities create one of the most vibrant and exciting college town experiences in the nation. Pullman and Moscow are home to a variety of locally owned restaurants, cafés, and community events. Pullman rests close to a variety of attractions such as Spokane, Silverwood, Palouse Falls, Steptoe and Kamiak Buttes and many other outdoors activities. Our location is ideal for those who enjoy spending time in nature, as there are a wide variety of terrains and climates.

The Department of Housing and Residence Life at WSU prides itself on creating a challenging and developmental experience for both the students we serve and the employees we supervise. We are committed to adapting and enhancing our employees’ experiences to provide them with a diverse sampling of student affairs practice along with their daily residence life work. We believe in building student affairs professionals not just housing professionals. A considerable amount of intentionality is put into how we supervise and operate. The department believes in and practices a flat hierarchy as part of its effort to remain both open and available to our students and employees.
