DESCRIPTION

The division of Medical Education within the UC San Diego School of Medicine (UCSD SOM) consists of four major units: Admissions & Student Affairs; Undergraduate Medical Education; Graduate Medical Education; and Continuing Medical Education & Faculty Development. These units are supported by core services units: Business Affairs, Educational Technology, and Evaluation & Assessment. The division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of 540 medical students, +900 residents and fellows, as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD's School of Medicine, its' Medical Centers, and affiliates.

The Medical Education Technology Director supports the division of Medical Education by providing a variety of IT services and support. Assignments may include leading technical teams to develop and support database administration, data visualization/analytical solutions, application programming, IT project management, systems administration, systems and process analysis, security, solution development and maintenance, business technical support, vendor management or a combination of these and / or other IT functions. The position supports all the Medical Education division information services needs for teaching/learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, learner compliance, program accreditation and evaluations.

Develops, prioritizes and implements IT strategies that improve program quality, processes, and compliance. Supports teaching and learning, as well as administrative initiatives through technical and curricular support, application and web development, analytics, classroom support, exam administration, classroom scheduling, and faculty and course evaluations. Collaborate with Division colleagues in developing analysis and reporting solutions enabling interpretation of examination and assessment data and course/teaching evaluation data. The position will liaison as required with Health IS and campus IS groups. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Nine years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus five years of related experience/training.

• In-depth knowledge of various areas of IT. Broad knowledge of the IT environment. Has solid knowledge of information systems function.

• Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems.

• Advanced knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.

• Advanced knowledge of secure software development. Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.

• Has solid interpersonal and management skills. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.

• Has solid knowledge of related principles and concepts to provide solutions to more complex and diverse information systems issues. Solid knowledge of the applications programming development function. Solid ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of assignments.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires solid ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and nontechnical personnel.

• Knowledge of test application code in client server environment

• Knowledge of conceptual database design.

• Knowledge of the health professions education industry, administrative analysis and operations research. Knowledge of assigned program requirements and curriculum.

• Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on educational techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve the health profession education services.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment. Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.

• Effective communication skills with peers, learners, faculty, and other education program coordinator
