JOB SUMMARY
With supervision from the Director of Global Student Success, the Associate Director (AD) is responsible for the successful delivery of the assigned portfolio of Northeastern signature cohort-based programs for first-year students, such as the N.U.in Program and Global Scholars, and contributes, to the management of semester/summer in programs in the Global Network. Implements program goals and design, with special emphasis on student services, crisis management, student support and program execution. Accountable for the day-to-day assigned program operations, and proactive collaboration with Global Experiential Office, Student Life staff and other departments across Northeastern University. Supervises a cohort of on ground site staff, training and managing the onsite staff or coordinating with international partners managing onsite staff. The role rotates as part of an on-call emergency triage team, responding to emergency issues, and serving as the first point of escalation, including outside of office hours.
Expected to travel to conduct trainings, site visits, attend, facilitate, and/or prepare meetings or conferences domestically and internationally. This position can be based in Boston but is not required to be based in Boston, with extensive international travel to provide oversight of program staff and sites. Hybrid work schedule possible for Boston based staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's required, Master's preferred. 3- 5 years of higher education administrative experience, with preferred focus on residential life, program management and/or international education, is required.
Effective oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in languages other than English a plus.
Excellent intercultural communication skills. Proven ability to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Effective interpersonal skills, sufficient to inspire others and to work effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Professionalism and collegiality; ability to interact with global partner representatives, faculty, and students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality. Must effectively represent the University to outside institutions and universities.
Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to travel. Ability to serve on an an emergency on call rotation - evenings and weekends
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Program Operations- maintain expertise in the assigned portfolio of programs as it relates to day-to-day operations, learning environment and cultural nuances. Manage all administrative and operational aspects of cohort programs in the assigned portfolio. Serve as a point of contact for logistical planning for GEO Program Development Team, the international partner colleagues, and the Northeastern community. Assist in the development of location-specific policies and logistics. Lead, create, and participate in program staff training programs in Boston and internationally, as assigned. Provide direction to site staff for all logistical and operational management of the site.
2) Staff supervision - provide direct supervision to assigned site staff in international locations. Review staffing needs including developing job descriptions and recruitment plans. Hire, train, evaluate the team. Provide frequent feedback, recognition and coaching to support high performance, professional growth and development. Administer and require compliance with university policies and procedures. Lead the selection and onboarding process of new staff. Directly manage the full-time and part-time on-site staff leads for programs in assigned portfolios. Ensure that staff transition to Boston and abroad is fully executed. Liaison with Student Life departments in the Global Network to deploy Success Manager (SM) staff upon return from abroad. Assist SM with Student Coordinator hiring as needed.
3 ) Customer Service and Emergency Response - Serve as the point person for managing student and parent matters escalated from site staff as well as students in crisis, in the site locations assigned; Help staff to triage and identify the core issues that the student is having to guide the student through the various campus units in order to correct or streamline issue resolution and coordinate communications with the local and Boston based resources as appropriate. Coordinate with provider staff as needed. Serve in an on-call rotation.
4) Site coordination - site visits of current sites; evaluate Student Life preparedness of new partner institutions; partner with Boston based Student Life resources to fulfill each sites student life and residential needs.
5) Collaborate with external colleagues on divisional committees and projects, as required. Seek innovative strategies to engage our globally distributed student body. Serve as part of global student life deployment team.
