The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Director Residence Life & Second Year Experience to provide visionary leadership and direction with the purpose of cultivating an educational, student-centered living community to attract and retain students to student housing and the University. To administer the Residence Life program for the University with the goal of enhancing the overall student experience as a complement to the academic mission of the University. To provide oversight for the student experience, community development and well-being of all first and second-year students on campus, including facilitation of a residential curriculum, participation in campus Care Team, collaboration with the Offices of Community Standards and Student Accountability, Student Assistance and Support, Student Health and Wellness, Student Counseling, Title IX, Student Involvement and Leadership, and other areas within and outside the Division of Student Affairs. To plan, develop, and coordinate a residence life program designed to engage students and stakeholders in the on-campus living community. To provide direction, strategic planning, and guidance to the Second Year Experience (SYE) for all second-year students at UAB and the Living Learning Communities within Student Housing.
Interested candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of progressive Student Housing and Residence Life experience and strong foundation in Student Development Theory. Demonstrated effectiveness in overseeing a robust residence life program, managing multiple levels of professional and student staff, budgeting, strategic planning, program and outcomes assessment, and crisis response and recovery. Ability to shift priorities quickly and make sound decisions with limited information is essential to be successful in this position. Demonstrated experience and ability to navigate periods of intense focus related to student distress, staff morale, emergency management, and conflict resolution while maintaining efficiency in daily or routine tasks is critical. Strong skillset in curation of student support data, reporting, and providing summary analytics is integral to the position. Incumbent may be contacted for response 24/365.
